chrono question - 02/10/21 06:45 PM

for those using a chronograph which sit on a tripod.

for .223 how close can you put it to the muzzle.?

i know it says 15 feet but if its 5 feet will the reading be off?

Buzz, at 5 feet, the muzzle blast will trigger the sensors and give you an error. If you are shooting with a suppressor, it may allow you to get a little closer. Any of the "shoot through" chronos need to be as far away from the muzzle as possible. I would always stretch the cable as far as it would go.

Never have used one less than ten feet, for any cartridge.

Buzz you should by a Magnetospeed, just like the one you sold me a while back!

I sure like my magneto speed.

While my sample size is small at only 3 rifles with varmint contour barrels and 2 rifles with a standard contour, like a factory rem bdl etc. It hasn't thrown anything off for me accuracy wise.

Close enough the muzzle brake (or for Chad break) stains the LabRadar casing....what did I win? rofl

Mine is spot on every time, even shoot guns with breaks installed. Double and triple check to ensute you dont shoot the bayonet strapped to the barrel. That would be an aw shot moment.

The biggest problem with a Magneto Speed is you can't shoot it on a suppressed gun without some sort of rigged up adapter.

I am still shooting through an Oehler chrono until I finally bite the bullet and get a LabRadar.

Literally the 2nd or third sentence of the Magnettospeed V3 description on their website is to be used with a barrel or suppressor........

I use my almost exclusively with a suppressor so not sure what you’re talking about.

Re: chrono question - 02/11/21 02:38 PM

they come with a special high heat pad to be against the suppressor

If you have a pic of how you set up the MS with suppressor would be great. I thought the gap would be way too big to work consistently.

Take a look at the link below. This is pretty much how I set mine up. It also has multiple spacers to accommodate for different size barrels, suppressors, etc...

I have not used mine on a suppressor, but I have also read that you do not have to get the bayonet nearly as close to the centerline of the bore as the instructions say. I have been using mine set at double the distance they say in the instructions just for safety sake and it still picks up and reads great.

I agree. I don't try and get it as close as possible. I always leave myself some room for error. Plus you can adjust sensitivity as needed.
