Oops - 09/16/20 11:58 PM

I just realized that I’ve been carrying a handgun for the last 3 1/2 months with an expired LTC. eeks333 Totally forgot about it expiring on my birthday. Sure glad I didn’t get checked, man. Just submitted the on line app & fee for the renewal. This is my first time renewing. I know they have up to 45 days to renew, but how long does it normally take?

Going forward I need to set a reminder on my phone or something to renew in advance, now I have to wait until it is renewed to carry again. Lesson learned. bang

Mine took 3-4 weeks during the middle of the Chinese virus mess.

How old are you gramps? This you’re first time to renew? You’re behind the curve.

roflmao I know. I’m 43. I’ve carried in my truck/private property forever but didn’t get my LTC until not too long ago.

That’s pretty quick Sir. I’m bad with dates! Always have been.

I suppose it's better to pay the crown late rather than never to buy your rights back.

The woman renewed mine about a 4 weeks (a couple weeks before my bday) and I literally got it on mon/tues. apparently the speed of snail mail is really slow right now.

It’s a shame that these things have to be done (in many states) to exercise a right granted by the Constitution.

As long as your prints are still considered “FBI”’acceptable and your records haven’t changed, you can renew online up to 12 months after expiration.
$40 plus a couple weeks waiting and you are back to carrying that pea shooter in style. slinger

You can make application to renew 6 months prior to expiration so set your reminder way ahead of time and you won't have to sweat it, next time.

Did they drop the requirement for any sort of class for a renewal?

Yes. As long as you renew with it 12 months of expiration, it is an online renewal with no additional training or class needed. If you miss the 12 month renewal the. You have to start over as a new applicant.

FAQ from DPS.
“Is there a requirement to take a continuing education course before I can renew my Texas License to Carry a Handgun (LTC)?

Per HB 48 (83rd Legislature), continuing education is no longer required for LTC renewal. License holders will simply apply online and submit the supporting documents for discounted fees or special conditions.

NOTE: It is the license holder’s responsibility to remain informed and knowledgeable of new laws.”
