PX4 Storm

I see all kinds of sales, assertions and info requests on various hand guns. Seldom have I read anything about the Berettas PX4 line. IS there a reason?

I have one but can’t comment on why they don’t get talked about. Mine is a full size Type F decocker. It’s very accurate and is a soft shooting pistol, due apparently to the action of the rotating barrel. When I first got it, the mags were super tight and hard to load with just my thumb and fingers. Over time, the mags have loosened up a bit, to the point that I no longer have to use a mag loader.

I bought the decocker version for safety, just in case a grandkid handled it. The grandkids are all now safety conscious with handguns, so it’s less of a worry.

All in all, it’s a great pistol. If I had to pick a negative on it, I suppose it would be that if you needed it in a fast emergency situation, unless you cocked the hammer, the first shot would be double action and therefore less accurate. Of course, practice would probably make that a non-issue for most folks.

When I first started reloading for it, using plated bullets, I had to load the rounds pretty stout to cycle the action. Limp writing by the wife and granddaughter would cause it to stovepipe, but I found the load that worked and limpwristing is no longer a problem.

Now, having said all that, I compare the PX4 to the S&W 380 EZ and find that the EZ (and probably the 9mm version) is easier to shoot the first round. No surprise there, since the EZ isn’t DA on the first round. So, for somebody that keeps a pistol on the bedside table, and doesn’t shoot much, the EZ would likely be a better choice. But for me, the PX4 is on the bedside table. The wife, however, hates my PX4 (too many switches, she says), but she hates the EZ too. She has a S&W 38 snubbie, the one with the plastic frame and built in laser. No knobs, switches, or mags.

Random info...the pistol comes with several grip panels, so you can fit the grip to your hand. I liked that. And the rear sight are easy to adjust. It’s easy to field strip and clean. The sights are good, but I’d replace them with tritium night sights, except that I have an installed red laser.

That’s all I can think of.

I have three and love them. I have the a size 45 ACP, a compact 9mm, and a sub-compact 9mm.

All three are accurate and have been 100% reliable. No issues from an ergonomics perspective; I am not a big guy. The full size is pushing it for me from a size perspective; however, the compact is perfect and the sub-compact is right behind.

I love mine and will not get rid of them.

I have the 40 sub compact and love it. It fits 10 in the mag and one in the chamber. It does not have the rotating barrel like the other two in the line, but I have no issues with it or with recoil. At first it seemed bulky-ish, but I believe that is mainly from the looks of it. Side by side to others with same capacity, etc, it is relatively the same. I also added the de-cocker and it slimmed down the width. The original safety stuck out like wings.
The only issue I have had is with holster manufacturers. One company I really like for other conceal carry designed their holster to cover the original safety, which sticks out. This made the kydex stick way out also. I am going to trim out that area and should be good to go.

I guess I had a few of them a couple of years back: Full-size 45, SC 9mm, and Compact 9mm. I don't remember ever having a problem with any of them.

I have the compact 40, very accurate.

I have 2 PX4 9mm and a CX4 9mm carbine. All take the same mags so that is convenient. I switched over from Glock and CZ at the wife's request after she shot one. The rotating barrel action does make a noticable difference in felt recoil. They all shoot great and are very reliable. Sights could be better, I def need to eventually get night sights. Also I dont like the shape of the safety/decocker lever. When its flipped up into the fire position it's like a pair of wings sticking out each side. They are range only guns, so I guess none of that is really a big deal.

Got my now wife the compact 9mm with the decock about 7 years ago . No problems, in the safe now.
