North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR)

North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 11/13/19 04:32 PM

This is a feeler and I'm throwing this out to see what kind of interest we get. This won't be just a THF thing, it will be advertised other places as well because we want a large turnout.

Myself and Vesperman Sr. are throwing around the idea of starting a 22LR league. We've both been holding matches and have decided we should just consolidate our efforts and make it into a points race league with bigger prizes and payouts.

We'd be shooting 6 matches a year with at least 3 required. The matches will span March through August. At the end of the season your top 3 scoring matches will be used for your points.

We're planning on getting some sponsors and going to try giving away a nice optic to the shooter of the year.

The entry fee for each match is still TBD, but we're thinking along the lines of $30 per match. With a 25% payout to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of each match. The other 25% will be held in escrow for the end of the season to be paid out to the top 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the points race. Along with other prizes from our sponsors.

We already have a North West range and want to get a range in the North East area so it isn't in the same place every time and so that some of the North Eastern guys can participate without driving very far. I'm searching for a range at the moment, but so far haven't gotten very far. If we do not find a range towards the East all 6 matches will be held at the West range. Although not ideal, we can't make range owners let us use their ranges. Also at $30 per match it doesn't generate enough money to pay out the top three shooters and rent the range so we're also running into that logistical problem.

Like I said this is a feeler at the moment and trying to gauge interest in it.

Please let me know if you'd be interested in doing something like this.

These are very dynamic matches. More like a PRS style match than a bench match. Ranges from 25-200 yards and we'll possibly even go further. Several position changes throughout the course of fire. The one I did on October 19th I think we only used the prone position on one or two stages.

anyone with a .22 repeater should be in on these. i'm old and cant shoot for chit anymore but this is great trigger time and FUN shooting with a bunch of good guys and gals. not just punchin paper,

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 11/13/19 10:03 PM

I was talking with a few guys about Poetry and they were under the impression you could not shoot steel at Poetry. If this is the case it is a no go for our match. Also it needs to be within 1 hour of Sherman, because I'll have to drive it the day before to setup the range for the next day. I do not want to be driving 6 hours in 2 days for the matches. Like I said previously if we can not find an East range we'll just do them all at the West range.

I'm interested. What kind of setups are you thinking? Need to be a semi-auto for follow ups like JG's prairie dog or bolts will be ok?

Bolt guns are fine 10 round mag preferable, but not necessary.

Tomorrow I’ll try to find my previous course of fire and post it for reference of what a match might consist of.

Definitely interested but same question as tlew what kind of 22lrs would be used? I'd have to buy one cause all I have is a little rossi, but would definitely be worth it, never been to a match sounds like alot of fun

Hey all, dont let the word "competition" scare you off from enjoying this REALLY fun, inexpensive, shooting league. Valley View may not be as close as your favorite golf course but we gotta keep the shooting sports alive, especially for our younger shooters.

.22lr is the most fun gun to shoot cuz you dont have to spend $5,000 on your rig and ammo is Cheap compared to your old .270/30,06.

Like said above any repeater bolt gun (Savage, Tikka, Remmy, Marlin, Winchester, TC), etc. OR the famous Ruger 10/22. Put a nice SWFA , or Meopta, which will focus down to 25 yards is perfect. If I remember there was a shooter with beater Savage or Marlin bolt gun with a great scope place VERY near the top a couple matches ago.

Matches are VERY well run with SAFTEY being the main goal.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 11/14/19 05:16 PM

Below is a sample course of fire, this is the course of fire that I ran at my October 19th match. This would obviously change match to match, but this is a nice sample of what a match could look like.

Stage 1 25, 50, 75, 100, 125
10 Rounds | 1 Point Per Hit | 1.5 Minutes
Shooter will start in port arms position. On the shoot command the shooter will engage the 25 yard target standing off-hand. Shooter will then engage to the 50 yard target in the kneeling position. Shooter will then engage the 75 yard target in the sitting position. Shooter will then move to the bench in the kneeling position engage the 100 yard target. Shooter will then engage the 125 yard target in the same position. BIPOD ONLY no bags or rest of any kind.

Stage 2 100 Yard TYL
10 Rounds | 1 Point Per Hit | 1 Minute
Shooter will start standing with gun on bench. On the shoot command the shooter will sit down and engage the largest plate at 100 yards. You must hit to move to next plate. If the shooter makes it to the smallest plate continue to shoot this plate for extra points until out of ammo.

Stage 3 150 Yard TYL Prone
10 Rounds | 1 Point Per Hit | 1 Minute
Shooter will start standing with gun on shooting mat. On the shoot command the shooter will lie down prone and engage the largest plate at 150 yards. You must hit to move to next plate. If the shooter makes it to the smallest plate continue to shoot this plate for extra points until out of ammo.

Stage 4 Barricade 25, 50, 75, 100, 125
10 Rounds | 1 Point Per Hit | 2 Minutes
Shooter will start in port arms position. On the shoot command the shooter will start on the top position on the barricade. The shooter can engage which ever distance they feel comfortable with, but they have to call out the distance before they fire to let the spotter know which target to glass. Failure to call out your distance before shooting will result in a no hit. 2 rounds per target and move in order of the steps on the barricade with the window being the last position. Can only use bag and bipod

Stage 5 Ladder 100 Yard TYL
10 Rounds | 1 Point Per Hit | 1.5 Minute
Shooter will start in port arms position. On the shoot command the shooter will use the rope attached to the ladder as a rest and engage the largest plate at 100 yards. You must hit to move to next plate. If the shooter makes it to the smallest plate continue to shoot this plate for extra points until out of ammo. No other supports or rest can be used besides the provided rope.

Stage 6 Roof Top 50, 75, 100
9 Rounds | 1 Point Per Hit | 2 Minutes
Shooter will start in port arms position on their strong side of the roof top. On the shoot command the shooter will engage the 50 continue to 75 yards and 100 yards. The shooter will then move to roof top and engage the 50, 75, and 100 yards plates. The shooter will then move to weak side and engage the 50, 75, and 100 yard plates. 1 shot per plate, if you miss move on. Bag and Bipod only.

Stage 7 200 Yard Prone or Bench No Dial
10 Rounds | 1 Point Per Hit | 1.5 Minutes
Shooter will start in standing position. On the shoot command the shooter will get behind their rifle and engage the 200 yard plate. Once the shooter hits the 200 yard plate they must move to the 100 yard plate and make a hit before moving back to 200. Continue to do this until out of ammo.

Stage 8 50 and 100 Yard Dot Drill
10 Rounds | 1 Point Per Hit | 1.5 Minutes
Shooter will start behind their rifle. On the shoot command the shooter will engage the 50 yard paper with their shooter number on it. When the shooter has shot 5 shots at the 50 yard paper the shooter will then engage the 100 yard paper with their shooter number. 5 shots only at each distance. If you fire more than 5 shots at either distance the number of shots will be deducted from hits made.

Stage 9 Pure Holds Prone 100, 125, 150, 175, 200
10 Rounds | 1 Point Per Hit | 2
Shooter will start standing. On the shoot command the shooter will get behind their gun and engage the 100 yard plate (largest TYL) with 2 rounds. Shooter will then move to the 125 yard plate and engage with 2 rounds. Shooter will then move to the 150 yard plate and engage with 2 rounds and so on. Shooter cannot touch their dial after the first round has been fired. Bag and Bipod ONLY

Stage 10 50 Yard KYL
5 Rounds | 1 point 1st hit, 3 points 2nd hit, 5 points 3rd hit, 8 points 4th hit, 12 points 5th hit| 1 Minute
Shooter will start behind their rifle. On the shoot command the shooter will engage the 50 yard KYL rack starting with the largest target. The shooter can stop at any time and take their points. If the shooter misses at any time they lose all points. If the shooter makes it to the smallest target a wiggle of the target will be counted as a hit, but only on the target itself. If you hit the hanger it will be counted as a miss. The hangers will be painted and the spotters will be able to see hits on them. If a shooter does hit the hanger the RO will call a cease fire before the next shooter and repaint the hanger only, not the target.

That’s wild, but sounds really fun at the same time! This will all be new to me, so I appreciate the best 3 of 6 scores. I’m sure it will take me a couple to figure out how it goes.

You got any videos of this kind of thing we can see?

Only videos I have are of the centerfire matches none of the 22 match but if you look up NRL22 it will give you some reference but we do shoot further than they do.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 11/19/19 03:15 PM

I am in for sure! For those asking about equipment, I shot the first .22 match with a Glenfield model 25 (bolt) with a 7 round magazine. It had a cheap redfield scope that only dialed down to 50 yards. I placed solidly middle of the pack. I had less than $200 total in my whole rig. So, yes, you can shoot this without dropping a bunch of dough. Although, you will have so much fun, that you will probably be spurred into spending a little $ on a new rifle/scope afterwards!

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 11/24/19 09:04 PM

Can someone make suggestions for basic/minimum shooting accessories ? Currently have a caldwell tack-driver bag. Are you guys shooting prone on the ground, etc. While the videos help, just wonder what you all might do differently. thanks smile

I see this info on nrl22
. The course of fire will always be 2 prone stages, 1 positional, 1 barricade and a 5th that can be any of those things.

another question, is membership in NRL22 required or suggested ?
Posted By: KRoyal

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 11/24/19 10:24 PM

Only accessories I use and a lot of the other guys use are a bag, bipod, and gun. Some of the guys have a ton of accessories but it’s not needed.

Our course of fire is different than NRL22. We come up with course of fires ourselves.

No membership needed.

I do not think the best pawn on parkway sales any of the high end stuff. I had to get all mine on midway. I still have a bunch of each left over if you just want to try them.

So how big are the plates we are shooting at, and at what distances will we see the different sizes?
Posted By: P_102

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 12/22/19 08:26 PM

Most of the targets are very generous, anywhere from 2 MOA up to 6-8 MOA at longer ranges (max 200 yards). KYL and Black Death have smaller targets but those are optional.

What Chris said. We don’t know distances or what size plate until we make the course of fire for that particular match.

Greg, it’s a 10-22, Brownells receiver, Kidd bolt and Ruger BX trigger. Volquartson carbon fiber barrel. All put together in a Archangel stock. 20 MOA riser and Athlon Midas TAC scope. She’s really purdy but only shoots 1 MOA..so nothing to be scared of.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 01/07/20 12:15 AM

Just an FYI guys before each match we’ll be having a range day so that you guys can come out and shoot on the actual range at each distance to help you guys get Dope for your rifles and get families with the range. No course of fire, but will be good practice before the match to help everyone out. Would be $10 per person for the day.

Not yet bud, will be up by Thursday at the latest. I’m building a dedicated website for the league.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 01/07/20 01:26 AM

Also want to add any kids 15 and under that are shooting in the league are free on the range day with paying adult. This is only on the range day. Kids still have to register and pay to shoot in league.

Kids are welcome to come and compete we encourage this to be a stepping stone to centerfire competition so if you guys have any kiddos that want to compete bring them out. If you need to share a gun that is fine, but let us know when we’re making squads.

We are thinking 10 and over and they must follow gun safety.

Tried several different ranges on the east side. They either told us flat no or they want too much money for range fees. At $30 per match we just can’t pay what they’re asking. Also don’t want to have 6 matches a year and charge $50+ per match.

You and Jeremy should just carpool and split the gas money lol.

Well, thats probably better for all you fools. It would get a little redundant me taking the podium every match. banana

ETA: $50 a match doesnt sound unreasonable to me really as long as its not a 4 hour round trip.

Guys, I need a do over.

I decided to go with Practiscore for our registration, payment, and squading solution. For the 2 guys that already registered and payed through PayPal I've issued refunds. Please reregister the link is the same as before.

When you click on register on the website you'll be taken to the NTxR League Dashboard. Under active matches you'll see the match for Feb 29th. Please click that and register.

Practiscore didn't allow a shirt option so if you're interested in a match shirt please just PM. Thanks

It’s coming up quick guys get your practice in and get registered.

We will be doing a 50% payout to shooters. Will be per match and at the end of the season we will have a payout to the overall points leaders. We’re in the process of getting sponsors for good prize table prizes as well.

We’ll be having a range day at the range for shooters to get acclimated to the range and get the dope for your rifles. February 8th 9am-2pm adults are registered adults are $10 and kids are free. Please pm for details if you’re interested.

Thanks

That is a nice looking piece, at the moment this is rifle only. Depending on traction we get we might have a pistol match and even extend it to other rimfire calibers like 17HMR (Yea I'm looking at you Josh).

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 01/22/20 04:52 PM

If you guys were planning to register you might want to get on the ball. Only 8 spots left for the match on the 29th.

You guys will want to come to all 6 matches, we will be having good prize table stuff of good cash payouts for shooter of the year (most combined points from all 6 matches) for both 1st and 2nd. We'll also be having a lesser prize for the best average over 3 matches for the guys that don't get to come to all matches you still have a chance at winning something. There will be other cash and prizes given out as well. Cash payouts at all matches to top 3 shooters.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 01/22/20 08:04 PM

We will be doing cold bore 200 yard shots before the match for side pot. $5 buy in, closest to bullseye wins. If there are two hits that are too close to call on the target we won't be breaking out the micrometer those two shooters will fire one shot each again and closest shot wins. Shooters may only shoot one time and only 1 shot per gun. Sorry for anyone that are sharing guns, but once a gun has been fired it can not be fired again during the cold bore shot stage. If you check zero before the match starts you can not shoot the cold bore shot.

After the match if anyone is interested in sticking around we'll be doing Black Death shooting for $5 per round. Winner takes all each round.

Yeah, I’ll probably have to pass on that. I think my gun can hang...and I can’t wait for the practice...BUT... this will be my first competition, and I’m not efficient at all with running this scope. Heck, I still have to look at the arrow on the turret to figure out which way to turn it roflmao

But I will play the heck out of that $5 black card of death with y’all. Can’t wait to meet you guys and see how this all works!

I thought one of the guys with a voodoo was signing up, not sure if he did or not. Also don’t know if it was one of the two guys that made that statement. Plus what they’re shooting isn’t like what we’re shooting. They’re shooting F Class which is basically bench rest at one or two distances off a bench with extremely sturdy rest with a very light trigger.

Most the F Class shooters don’t fare too well in PRS type matches because in a single stage we might shot 5-6 different distances from 5 different positions of very unstable positions. Shooting strong hand and weak hand. More stuff going on in one stage of our match than their entire match.

Yep my buddy Dustin came out with a stock 10/22 with a Simmons 22 scope he won from the first match that has no hashes just some big dots that didn’t correlate to the turrets and took 3rd in the last match. He out shot some really nice rifles including mine.

Not sure what my problem is, I went and shot today and zero’d my new scope. Ran it from 25-300 yards today to get my dope. After I got my dope I shot off the roof top at all 3 positions left and right handed, shot the barricade from 25 to 125 putting two shots on each target, ran the KYL, and never missed a shot.

Come match time I’ll miss everything.

May not be cleared for the 8th but I'll def sneak out before the 28th and try and see how many feet my 40gr drops at 225

I agree, the Vudoo's are the cats azz of bolt .22's $3300 little high for one .22. Definitely F-Class guns. I feel in "our" matches the semi has a slight edge over a bolt throw and time it takes to get back on Target. just my thoughts.

wont matter to me, I'll just be glad to be in the presents of greatness flehan

Just talked to the range owner. We’re keeping an eye on the weather at the moment showing rain for us pretty much all week. 2 weeks ago the range was a soggy mess when I went and we hadn’t even gotten much rain. So Saturday for the range day is still in the work, but I’ll let you guys know as soon as I know.

I’ll be sending out an email to the email you used to register in Practiscore with the directions to the range and anything else important so keep an eye out for that.

Just a heads up, mother nature has canceled the range day scheduled for this weekend. We're going to let the range dry out as much as possible and try to reschedule for the weekend before the shoot (Saturday 22nd).

This is not guaranteed so please practice up and make sure your gun is ready to go on the 29th. There will be paper setup at 50 if you have to confirm zero, but you will not be allowed to do the cold bore side bet. Also on the day of the shoot you will not be able to shoot steel at the different distances before the match. You're only allowed to shoot the 50 yard paper.

I was looking forward to figuring out how to do the dope sheet today, but mother nature decided otherwise grin

Looking forward to hearing when the practice day will take place.

Thanks,

Thanks. I do have one of these, and they do a good job at predicting trajectory. I am however curious to capture "actual" empirical data with my rifle/barrel/ammo from 50 to 200 yards to create my dope sheet :-)

Actual to 200 yards is iffy due to weather....you can get to 100 at Bass Pro Grapevine or Frisco Gun Club.

Here were other ones from the same day (light wind) at 100 yards - same rifle/setup as the one above:

Squads on Practiscore doesn’t matter. Just pick an open slot I will randomize the squads the day of. We’ll shoot three squads of 10 shooters. So one squad will be in one stage second squad on another stage and third squad on another stage. We’ll run three simultaneously. This just cuts down on time and all shooters will shoot all stages just in different order.

Hammurabi- Hammurabi[a] (c. 1810 – c. 1750 BC) was the sixth king of the First Babylonian dynasty of the Amorite tribe[2] reigning from c. 1792 BC to c. 1750 BC (according to the Middle Chronology). He was preceded by his father, Sin-Muballit, who abdicated due to failing health. During his reign, he conquered Elam and the city-states of Larsa, Eshnunna, and Mari. He ousted Ishme-Dagan I, the king of Assyria, and forced his son Mut-Ashkur to pay tribute, bringing almost all of Mesopotamia under Babylonian rule.[3]

I think yo dumb [censored] meant to call the gorilla Harambe

On May 28, 2016, a three-year-old boy climbed into a gorilla enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden and was grabbed and dragged by Harambe, a 17-year-old western lowland gorilla. Fearing for the boy's life, a zoo worker shot and killed Harambe.

Got home, and this was the dope I found out (reading straight from the scope's reticle):
[Linked Image]

I then got home, and since I got the chronograph data from LabRadar for 10x rounds of SK Match Long Distance, I entered these values into Strelock+, and came up with this "calculated":

Which is not exact dope to what I got from the reticle, but pretty close. I should check them again, specially the one at 150 yards smile

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 02/17/20 01:37 AM

Hey Will, I really like that program you have that gives you the distance and drop. I saw another guy out there today with the chronograph had a neat program like that as well!

I’m shooting the same ammo... the sk Longrange, only my scope is in mils. I have a 20” barrel with a 1:16 twist and I’m not sure what speed I’m getting, however I was able to get my Mils down to the 1/10’s of a mil today.

I’m curious if your program, or maybe another, could back into what speed I’m getting based off of the elevation Drops I have? I’m assuming the program will do both MOA and MILS, correct?

What apps/programs are everyone else using, and does anyone know if they will they back into speed?

My dope for today was:
50—0
75—.9
100– 1.8
125— 3.0
150— 4.3
175— 5.7
200– 7.2

Thanks!

Greg

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 02/17/20 01:59 AM

Greg,

For Strelok, the instructions are here:
manual

You basically have to configure the rifle, scope, and configure the ammo. For the ammo you need to know the bullet weight (40gr in our case), the BC of the bullet, which is (0.172) per this page:
SK Rimfire Ballistic table

But the key value to make it work is the muzzle velocity - which is where you need the chronograph.

Now, this software has something called "truing" where you can use actual dope to adjust things, but I have not tried it. So using your dope you should be able to approximate the muzzle velocity.

I only have experience with Strelock, so hopefully others can chime in with additional advice and guidance.

Will

Thanks Will! I’m thinking maybe a spreadsheet with the formulas would be able to help me back into something as well. If anyone knows of a way for me to figure this out short of going and buying a chronograph, please let me know. Thanks!

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 02/17/20 02:24 AM

Greg, the ‘Shooter’ app allows you to put your dope in and it will give you muzzle velocity. I think it’s still $10.

Once you have added your gun and ammo data, do a calculation....when you get to the results page, hit the icon at the top right and it will open up a page where you can go to Velocity Calculation.

I’d run a snake through it once or maybe twice and be done. But if you’re going to run 100 rounds through it before the match you should be fine but if you use coated bullets it takes a while to build back up in the barrel.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 02/19/20 11:07 PM

they are filthy and full of old lead, carbon, copper, yuck. just doesn't seem right to drag old yuck over new yuck.

for rimfire buy a Patch Worm and Rimfire Blend or Ballistol . they make felt "pellets" with special , course felt for tough lead and carbon donuts.

but ive always kept my stuff clean till time to shoot. i will always foul a clean barrel with a few shots, maybe not 2 boxes of rimfire. but everyone's guns could be different so YMMV.

this is just my opinion, not telling anyone what "they" should do with their guns

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 02/22/20 04:31 PM

Since I mostly/always have my Form1 suppressor in place, my rifle requires far more cleaning, so I clean my rifle after every range trip. This is due to the fact that my 10/22 is of course blow-back design PLUS the much higher back-pressure created by the suppressor, both contribute to a lot of dirt/debris going back into the receiver, which is of course cumulative, so the more I shoot, the quicker I get the gunk to create malfunctions/feeding problems. I am in fact considering stop using the suppressor on the 10/22, even though I love how quiet it sounds, at least until I finish a new Form1 design that I am still working on that "should" have lower back-pressure.

Yes, you’ll be able to use pillows. I’m not making the course of fire for this particular match so it’s up to the match director which will be Vesperman Sr for this particular match. It’s up to him what is usable and what isn’t in each stage.

More or less how is that 8-2 time during the day works out? Is there a set order of events, distances, groups, etc..?

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 02/25/20 12:47 AM

Sorry about that, the times on the practiscore needs to be changed. The match is 9am-2pm. Yes be there 15-20 minutes early, earlier if you need to zero. There will be paper at 50 for sighting in. You’re NOT allowed to shoot any other distances or steel. Steel will already be painted and we don’t want to waste time having to repaint steel before the match. Match will start at 9am. There will be 3 squads randomized, each squad will start on a different stage and shoot through each stage on the course of fire until they’re done. The last stage KYL we’ll all shoot together. Most people like to watch KYL.

Times have been fixed on all matches.

Correct if you shoot your gun at paper that morning you’re not eligible to shoot the cold bore shot.

What is the cold bore shot? I thought we have 3x squads, shooting at 3x sets of targets, and then alternate until all shoot all 3x sets of targets. Is this cold bore shoot something that happens before we start the 3x squads?

Again, pardon my ignorance as this is my first ever of these events.

JUST AN FYI

We've spoke about it and have decided that for the first match we're going to try and do the 200 yard cold bore shot directly after range/safety briefing and then will give shooters a little time to sight in after the cold bore shot. So what I previously said about if you sight in you will not be allowed to shoot cold bore is no longer accurate. However, this is a "Sight In" period, not a range session. Please get on the bench or prone and shoot 5-10 shots max to confirm zero and then make room for another shooter. We're trying to keep the match in our allotted time from 9am-2pm. The first match will be a test bed for the cold bore and sighting in period it could change in the future if we run over our time too much.

It doesn't really matter in the first couple of matches because weather will be nice and cool, but the summer matches it is going to be hot and we don't have enough shade to keep everyone cool for extended periods of time. We want it to be fun, but also not take all day long.

Match registration closes Thursday at 4PM, we have 3 spots left.

All stages will be shot using a bipod and one sandbag, unless otherwise stated for that stage. No other props. Shooting mat may be used at any time. If you are using a semi-auto up rifle and the stage requires you to move positions you must put the gun on safety and call out safe to the scorekeeper, then move. Repeated violations of this rule will cause a DQ for this match. Bolt action rifles must have bolt open and back to change positions. Repeated violations will cause a DQ for this match.

There will be three squads. Each squad will be in charge of spotting hits, misses and scoring for themselves. Everyone must take a turn. When the shooter hits the target the spotter will call out impact loudly so the score keeper can mark it. If there is a discrepancy the squad must address it immediately amongst themselves, do not bring it up at the end of the match. If the issue cannot be resolved bring it to the match directors.

Thanks Kyle.......Maybe I’m not imagining the bench properly but Stage 1, scrambling back and forth so much, sounds inherently dangerous. Could the same be accomplished by shooting all distances from one side, then switching to the other? (I know you didn’t come up with it but you’re our ‘mouthpiece’ on the forum)

Should be fine. Semi autos are to put on safe and call out safe before moving positions and bolt guns are supposed to be bolt back. The switching back and forth is to get you uncomfortable. It’s much easier to shoot a 5 shot string right handed and then shoot it left handed. Mixing it up every other shot will shake it up a bit. As long as We handle the rifles correctly and safely it won’t be a problem.

Cleaned and re-fouled barrel today, (you’re right, Kyle, about 50 rounds to get it lubed back up), I’d post a pic of my groups but I wouldn’t want to scare y’all away. peep

Don’t think the Voodoo is gonna help him very much in this type of shooting. If we were going for tiny little groups at 100-200 yards on a rock steady bench then I’d say he might have the edge. Even then Princess would find a way to mess it up.

For those of you that weren’t there Dustin shot the match with a factory 10/22 with a Simmons scope he won from the first match that is really no better than a duplex reticle. On the no holds stage he put the gun up on a rest and dialed his hold seeing how much the reticle moved to find his holds. He beat some of use guys having thousands of dollars in gear with his 350 dollar rifle. Natural talent for sure.

They let me come to the match and watch it. Im an F/Class shooter. The shooting they do is on a different level. Im going to work on learning to do what they do. I love shooting 22s. But shooting the matches they shoot takes lots of practice and a mind set. Its not a gun and equipment race. The shooter that knows his gun and ammo best will win. The results of this match shows that. I have a ways to go but I will work on it

Had a blast yesterday. Big shout out to Jeff for helping me get situated. I couldn’t hit paper about 5 mins before match started. Jeff helped get me on paper and squared away.

The shooting would have been that hard except the off hand shooting, the crazy positions you had to shoot from, the moving target, the damn time limit and the stupid wind. Other than that it was a cake walk!

Really had a great time and very thankful for the folks who put this together and hosted. Can’t wait till next month. I’ve got a lot to practice!

You should do it. Dax brought his 10 yr old boy out to practice day and he popped that 200 yard target and had a grin from ear to ear. He was real proud to tell his momma when he got home!

Yes sir! No problem glad we can do it and make it fun and challenging at the same time. Hope everyone comes out next month as well. I’ll be doing the course of fire for the next one.

If anyone here has time to help me learn this new game. I will have targets built. I have a really nice private range. Come on up and we will shoot. I have to learn some time. Just let me know what size targets.

I think that several of us would show up and practice together. I would. Like in the movie "build it - they will come". Or something like that wink

This was my first event ever, and my thoughts are that in this type of competition, yes, equipment is important, but not the deciding factor. Both knowing your gun/ammo "well", and then learning to shoot "your setup" from uncommon positions, from weak hand/side, and under time pressure was far more important that theoretical group size capabilities.

If you have a private range, I would break it down to:

Phase 1: no time limit
- Find the consistent/accurate ammo your rifle likes.
- Really learn your setup over 25-200 yards - create your dope chart(s)
- Practice as many of the various positions as possible (given the course of fire shared above)
- Practice as many of these positions weak hand/weak side
- Practice alternating distances - without touching the dials (focus only) - learn to use your reticule

Phase 2: start timing yourself
- Repeat above but start with a generous time limit 3-5min
- Gradually lower that time limit to force you to shoot faster and still hit most everything
- Eventually practice at the 1:30 limit (or 1min) per the course of fire

Of course all that above means = lots of practice. At least that is how I see it in my head smile

I will see if I can get some targets built. If any of you have targets that would help. We can plan a range and lot testing day. 4 or 5 of us could get together. I shoot matches the 1st and 3rd Saturday evey month

I can help with the welding part - I have in the past welded steel targets for our Boy Scout troop. So if someone can source steel, I can cut and weld it (although I don't have a way to do circles).

I just asked my daughter, and she would love to have the opportunity to try shooting at some targets during a range day. So that would be the two of us smile

I also have ideas for two new steel target designs I could weld up - something to mix it up a little.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 03/30/20 04:26 PM

I just found this match info and read through the entire thread. Got really interested in it then saw all of the talk about mil dot, dope, etc. Saw some of the rifle and scope set ups and man, some of y’all are serious about this. I’m just an old country boy that shoots turtles, rocks, and punches some paper for fun with my .22. Just bought a plain Jane S&W M&P 15-22 and a regular scope that I haven’t even fired yet. Y’all got me scared already. But I’ll try to get out and give it a go just for fun and to meet everyone. Worst I can do is last place and enjoy burning up some ammo. Sounds like everyone had a good time.

I have an idea that i got from my Nephew. He is on the HS Bass fishing team, and they can not complete in tournaments. What they are doing is online tournaments. They fish, catch fish, and take a photo of it on the scale. Why couldn't we do something like that here? Send out a course of fire (all paper targets). You must shoot them at the designated distances in designated stance (prone, kneeling, bench, offhand), and send the photos in. Any interest?

Any possibility of getting a practice in or a chance to check DOPE before the shoot? I got a new scope and local range only goes 50-100-300-400yrds.If not, I'll make due. I just want to shoot.

Just wanted to correct this. Just got off the phone with Vesperman Sr. and we're going to have a range day this saturday the 18th for those that want to come out. If you were a registered shooter from the last match you probably just got an email from "no reply". Please look at the email for further instructions.

Range day will be from 9am-12pm

What, no pictures, no report, no nothing? With limited participation we had a really good shoot. The wind was a bit of a pain but it was fairly consistent and allowed us to adjust accordingly. Congrats to the winners....lots of really good shooting going on.....and lots of fun!

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 04/26/20 12:06 AM

With smaller squads and no bottle necks it ran pretty quickly today. Didn’t even have time to take any pictures too busy keeping score, time, and spotting. I did get a picture of the score board but that was it. Was a good day and a fun shoot. Good course of fire Tony.

I beat Princess, Fitz, and Dustin so it was a good day for me lol.

If I can ever get my right eye trained to close, Kyle, so I can shoot ‘weak side’ (workin on it), you’ll need to watch out!

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 04/26/20 01:31 AM

Also, Kudos to Sr. for his 7 on the ‘Snake Charmer’, shooting a moving target ‘shotgun style’ ain’t easy, Kudos to David B. for cleaning station 8 and kudos to Blaine for getting off to a rough start and bringing it back to a very respectable score! All in all, a really good day and a really good shoot.....many thanks.

Kyle reportedly dropped Dustin's rifle on "accident" it appears.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 04/26/20 05:32 PM

It was a good day, Kyle and Chris were shooting great. Princess and I, not so much. Note that Kyle "worked on" Dustin's rifle the night before and it seemed to have a lot of jams. Something is a bit fishy...

The S&S group are some incredible shooters and fast.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 04/27/20 01:23 AM

I great time was had and the springtime weather was wonderful. I have learned a little while learning this gun and game. The game has exposed my faults, but the part I like most is the fact that this can be done by anyone with any capable gun that holds ten rounds. I’m getting beat bad by much more normal priced options. So those on the fence, come out and try. Everyone is friendly and shares their knowledge when asked.

Lol I replaced his bolt release. So took his trigger pack apart nothing else. He hasn’t cleaned that gun since he bought it. Ain’t got nothing to do with me.

Also thanks to the Vespermans for calling and spotting me to a 12” target at 300 yards with some pretty gusty wind!

300 yards is salty for a 22lr, especially in that wind. Congrats Patrick.

That’s damn good, Patrick! I did 250 with Sr. Spotting for me a couple practices ago. Not sure I’d have enough dial for 300.

BTW, and speaking of bolt releases, I have an extra ‘auto’ release from Volquartson. It turns out theirs won’t work with a Kidd bolt, had to get one from Kidd. Freebie for anyone that wants to come get it.

Well Dustin ordered the Kidd auto release, but he is dumb and lost it.

Sr. is going to look back at the squad sheets to confirm the score. Think it was just a typo on my part when entering the numbers to the website.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 04/29/20 03:46 PM

So going from memory from the standing list
Top 10
CZ
40x with custom barrel
Tikka with custom barrel
CZ
10/22 with Kidd barrel
10/22 hammer forged barrel
3/4 I’m not sure

Then I’ve seen below out there
A few more customized 10/22
The ruger bolt
Another CZ or two
And ar15 .22 of something

I see mostly vortex scopes, and Athlon, a couple Cabela’s scopes, a Simmons,
That’s all I remember

For those of you that have signed up or were going to sign up for this weekends match. It doesn't look like Mother Nature is going to let us shoot.

I'd like to get some feedback on which day you guys would rather move the match to.

We have the 23rd which is the Memorial Day weekend or the 30th.

Please respond on this thread, thanks.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 05/27/20 11:41 PM

We have exciting news!
We have acquired several sponsors for our 22 rimfire league. They are donating prizes for a prize table at the end of the year. In which everyone will get to draw from. To name a few of our sponsors:
Vortex Optics
BlAMM Enterprise
MK machining
Murphy Precision
To be able to qualify for the prize table at the end of the year a shooter will have to shoot in at least 3 matches.
We will also be giving away a prize to the shooter on the crease. The crease shooter will be determined by listing the shooters from first to last for that match on a piece of paper and then folding it in half. The shooter on the crease of the folded paper will win the prize.

We are considering having a long-range steel match from 150 yards to 350 yards later this summer . If anyone is interested let us know so we can get a head count of how many people would be interested in attending this match. 22LR. This match will be shot either prone or from the bench you will only be allowed to use a bipod and rear sandbag.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 06/07/20 08:21 PM

You would need to have a 20 to 25 MOA base on your rifle , that would definitely get you to 350 , and depending on what scope you have it could get you to 400.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 06/07/20 08:40 PM

[quote=VarmintSniper30]You would need to have a 20 to 25 MOA base on your rifle , that would definitely get you to 350 , and depending on what scope you have it could get you to 400.[/quote

After doing further testing Saturday evening I have found I am incorrect on my thread above about moa bases. A couple of friends of mine and I were shooting and found that you have to have at least a 25 moa base or more to get to 350. Sorry for the bad information above.

I could be wrong but that should depend on how much travel your scope has as well as its reticle.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 07/16/20 03:30 AM

Is this good for accuracy? I thought it would be fun to have a big brake on my 22lr. This is probably about 400 rounds through it without cleaning. It's got a little bit of build up.

Lol what did you shoot through that thing before the 22? Honestly though it probably is terrible for accuracy, probably messes with your barrel harmonics. Some of the guys were complaining about how loud my rifle is so I threw my suppressor on and the groups opened up a lot, took it right back off and told them to suck it up.

It was brand new before I put it on the 22. It replaced a flash can that was on the rifle earlier this year. Ran okay until the last match. I couldn't hit anything and I figured I was just having a bad day. I'm sure all the fouling didn't help out. I tried knocking the garbage loose and I'm getting chunks of lead coming off. This tanker brake came off and an A2 flash hider went on tonight after I cleaned the rest of the rifle.

Ahh I see it now, when I looked at it last night it looked like there was a bigger bullet put through it than the bore was.

Another great match today. Made some really dumb mistakes which you can’t do against this caliber of shooters so I brought up the rear today. Still a good time.

Guys if you’ve been to 2 of these matches you really need to register and come to the last match Aug 29th. We are going to have a huge prize table with all of us probably going through twice. But you have to have shot 3 league matches over the year. Athlon just sent us some Argos BTR scopes for the table as well.

Great match yesterday. Came out tied for 7th. So happy with my score, haha. The last match will be a bit bittersweet. I'm glad I stuck with it and kept shooting each match even on or after those bad day. I'm sad that it will be the last match after I'm starting to get this PRS stuff figured out. I got a couple moments to pause and take some pictures too,

Great having you out Andy. Just practice over the break and come back strong next year. That’s what I’m going to have to do.

I’m sure we’ll have several non-league matches between now and then to brush up you skills. Any that we have I’ll post them in the rifles section of this forum as well as on the NTxR website. So keep any eye out.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 07/31/20 02:33 PM

Range day will be August 22. From 8 a.m. till 11.

For our last league match we will be shooting out to 250 yards. We will also be posting the course of fire before range day this time.
Posted By: KRoyal

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 08/04/20 06:20 PM

Registration is open for 6th and final match of the year.

August 29th match:
We will be shooting out to 250 yards on one stage.  Please make sure you have DOPE out to this range.  We'll be sending out the course of fire TO REGISTERED SHOOTERS ONLY before range day so you can practice.  This will be going through Practiscore, so if you haven't registered for the match on Practiscore you will not receive the Course of Fire before range day.

Guys that have came to 2 matches, we have a pretty large prize table. Regardless how you did in the 2 previous matches I'd suggest you register and come out for the last match to get on the prize table.

As for the prize table you must have shot at least 3 League matches during the 2020 season. You must be present at the last and final match of the season August 29th.

So I have a question!
I have registered for the match on the 29th, what has to be done to register for the range day on the 22nd?
I click on the praciscore for the event of the 22nd and it takes me to the 29th

Also if someone could pm me the address I’d really appreciate it.

I registered for the first one however got sick and couldn’t attend, really looking forward to this shoot!

It was a scorcher today, 111* heat index. Was a good day for sure though.

Today Tony got 1st shooting a 96 and Sr and I tied for 2nd with both shooting a 95

Congrats to Vesperman Jr for taking 1st over all, Tony taking second overall, and Sr taking 3rd overall.

I won overall Cold Bore champion

Sr won overall Black Death champion.

Prize table today was outstanding. Thank you to all of our sponsors and guys that donated.

Above all thanks for a great year of shooter safety. Looking forward to next season already.

We had a praying mantis that took a liking to my gun. Maybe it was my lucky charm today.

Oh and we had a real life pirate on the range today lol.

It was very interesting to see how the 200 yard cold bore group (bullets) has shrunk! Early in the season there were shots all over that target, this time most were within a few inches of center.

Thanks again Kyle, Senior and gang! Looking forward to more!

You and I like the k y l more than most and it got us both. The big what if ❗ damned-if-you-do damned if you don't but I still enjoy the hell out of it.

ultimately the most enjoyable thing of the whole year was the great group of shooters we shot with. They were all very safe and fun to be around .

Apparently I'm getting old and not thoroughly reading things I noticed a day later now that Chris shot an 86 which is also very good. That is an awesome improvement for both of those guys. They could be hard to deal with next year for a lot of people. I think they're coming for Kyle.

G1 is .1720 on most.....but pay heed to what Kyle said. Also, even though charts are good, I have never shot a series of distances using a chart and been ‘on’ at each distance, there are always variances.....DOPE is King.

Very nice! How about one that you have to hit 2-3 times to get it to make a full revolution? Shot #1 gets it moving, #2 increases the swing, #3 gets it over the top! Maybe in 2 shots if really solid impacts.

Interesting!

I used to shoot at a shooting range that had a pepper popper that worked like that with 9mm. It would only fall "if" you hit it enough times in a row to create enough momentum. It was great for teaching double tap drills.

For the 22lr, I would have to experiment with the arm length and mass, plus it would also depend greatly on the ammo you use - our subsonic 1000fps ammo will not move the target as much as the 1300-1400fps hunting ammo. Would need to figure out how to account for that difference somehow.

I think it would be a great target to figure out and build for adults, but certainly not for the Boy Scouts as we are teaching them mostly the fundamentals and we don't want (yet) to encourage them to try to shoot too fast cool
Posted By: P_102

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 11/11/20 12:27 AM

The one we shot at JG’s shoots (centerfire) would not make it with .223 but with anything heavier. .243 with 87 grain took 3 solid impacts, maybe 4 whereas 7mm could do it in 2. It’s not as much shooting fast as it is ‘when’ to shoot. You had to hit it going away, hit it swinging the wrong direction would stop it. A long arm and lighter weight target would give you long, slow swings vs. a shorter arm and heavier targets.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 11/11/20 12:30 PM

Do you have a photo or some other visual to help me "see" how that target was put together?

I recently ran into this video by Gavin where he is shooting at a rimfire spinner pro, and a couple of times if he hits it right, it makes it spin faster:
Posted By: P_102

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 11/11/20 09:24 PM

That’s pretty close but the one we used had only 1 leg (about 4’ I think) with a foot or so of extension on the other side, it settled faster.

If you ever find a picture, please post it. In the meantime, I looked at my crap steel bin and found enough metal to make one spinning target similar to the one in the video above. I just ordered some sealed bearings so that I can provide smooth turning. I "might" get lucky and have it ready in time for the December campout but I am not going to stress about it as I already have one new target for the kiddos (and adults) attending camp smile

Not a swinging KYL, Buzz, a swinging target like at Jason’s matches only for center fire. Gotta hit it 2-3 times to get it over the top.

Not sure how I called out BIL but if it gets some shootin’ going on, even a nice practice day, I’m all for it!
Besides, I’m getting ready to start loading my own and need to see if I’m as bad at it as Kyle! peep

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 12/06/20 02:44 AM

OK, made it to the range, and got to test both targets today:
[Linked Image]

And today was my first time ever shooting my CZ457:
[Linked Image]

The 5x swinger (know your limit) worked great!. At the 40 yards or so, the 3x folks that tried it got 5 for 5 with my scoped CZ457 and Gemtec subsonic ammo. Not bad, although after hitting the left most target (3") I had to adjust point of impact down to hit the next 4:
[Linked Image]

The other swing target (far right) - way too heavy for 22lr, as I expected. But with my subsonic 200gr 358Win bolt action cast lead load, myself and another dad were able to get it to rotate with two shots. Definitely MUCH harder than I expected it to be, and a lot of fun!

I would love to be able to help and weld something for you guys and the range.

I provide the time/welding consumables - I just need the steel. And note I don't have the ability to cut any circles/shapes - just straight cuts on my metal bandsaw smile

Trust me. That was back in 2014. It does NOT look anywhere as clean as it looks there. Still fully functional (it has a hydraulic piston for controlled descent) and the VFD still works perfect, but lots of usage and "battle scars" as well!

Well [censored], we’re apart of PRS now so KYL is not an option anymore because we’re not allowed to “take points away” in PRS. So guess no KYL this year guys. I’ve got a spin on it to still use the KYL targets though.

Option 1: you have to hit the first 4 targets to get to the 5th and the 5th target is worth 10 points.

Option 2: each target worth 1 point 2 shots per target. Must hit to move on.

PRS stole our idea and decided to do PRS style matches. We joined this year for next year to be a PRS Rimfire match. So you can shoot our matches and be ranked against all the other shooters around the USA and qualify for the regionals and nationals if you’re good enough.

I read the COF for the Nationals this year, (NRL, not PRC), my impression was; 1) Too many ‘trick f-ck’ stations where you can’t remember what target to shoot next and 2) Not ‘Sr. friendly’, with lots of transition from standing to prone.

Any of you guys that have some of the higher end 22 ammo mind selling me a box?

Putting together my new rifle and need to see which ammo it likes best. Really only need probably 10-20 rounds of each.

Will pay cash or can trade 9mm or 223/556 ammo. Depending on what ammo you have will depend on how much ammo I'll trade up

Ammos I'm looking for:

Lapua center-x
Lapua Midas +
Wold Match Target
SK Rifle Match
SK Long Range Match
SK Standard

Thanks a bunch.

I got some SK Longrange you can use Kyle. Most of the other stuff I had got shot up. If they are out of stock at midway, sign in and click “notify me”. When you get the email from them, then get on it quick and place an order. I tried it last week for some 140 gr Hornady ELD Match and got an email yesterday. Placed my order and it shipped today.

PRS is the precision rifle series. They have opened up a new division for rimfire this year and we have joined them. Now if you want you can join PRS rimfire and you can accrue points for a regional championship and possibly make it into the national championship. You do not have to join PRS to shoot in our league. Our league will function much the same as it did last year, three bench stages three prone and three to four positional . We will still have payouts and year end prizes if the sponsors are willing. Our league will still be very beginner friendly but yet still challenging for the experience to shooters .

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 12/15/20 10:21 PM

Ok guys the schedule has been made. We will be doing a total of 7 matches this year for the league. We will be using the best overall 5 matches for everyone. This means if you come to all 7 and you shoot like chit on the 4th match you have a chance to drop that match and score better next time. Or, if you're just a badass that means you only have to come to 5 matches and shoot lights out. With that said I'll be at all 7 matches LOL. I encourage all shooters to come out to every match, if not just for the camaraderie.

If you guys have not been reading the past couple of pages and are up to date. NTxR is now part of the PRS Rimfire Division.

Like last year you must shoot at least 3 matches to qualify for the prize table. So far this year we don't know yet who will be our sponsors, but we'll still be paying out 50% to the top 3 shooters at each match and at the finale match (7th match) we'll be paying out the overall accumulated money that we hold back over the year.

Below is the link to the NTxR League website with all the dates and registration links.

https://ntxrleague.com/

Also I got a ton of questions last year about where I got all my shirts, hats, and stickers with the League Logo. Just for you guys I spent all day building a new website and getting a few shirts and the stickers done. Since these are all one off items they are on the expensive side. I'm making no money off this and after spending several hours building the website today, I'm actually in the hole by a large margin LOL. Not worried about that, would just like to promote the league, so if you want some swag head on over to the link below. Many more items to come so keep an eye on that site too.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 12/31/20 06:39 PM

This year for the first three matches range day will be the Saturday before the match at 2:00 in the afternoon till 5:30. Range day Fee will be $15 per adult shooter. Shooters under 16 years of age will be considered a youth shooter and they will be free with an adult paid shooter. Also our match fee this year will be $35 per match. I may do an extra range day in early February but I have not picked a time yet.

You can for sure just watch, but as someone who has done very little this far, I recommend you bring an scoped 22lr rifle (any 22lr rifle) and also give it a try during the range day (usually day before each event).

I am planning on attending one of the range/practice days as well and my son said he is interested in trying it out as well grin

Is there room for spectators at something like this? Wouldn't mind watching before I made a fool out myself by entering.

I shot in the first .22 match that Kyle did. I used an old Glenfield model 25 with a cheap redfield scope. It did have an moa turret, but I can't say how accurate the turret was. I ended up finishing first in the bottom third of the group. LOL. Slap a good scope on any old .22 and it will get you there for your first match. It matters not if you finish first or DAL. I guarantee that if you come watch, and don't shoot, you will regret it.

The people at the event are friendly, will answer questions, will even loan you equipment (bag, support, etc.) to help you shoot, happy to give you tips, etc.. Great environment to learn and have fun smile

Hey guys, got a rifle, scope, ammo and am registered/paid for my first match on 2/21. Is there anything else I should consider bringing? My rifle has a bipod and I have the weibad range cube. Do I need an additional bag like the fortune cookie or game changer? Also, can anyone advise on a basic idea of what size targets to expect beyond 100 yards.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 01/24/21 02:16 PM

The game changer is a very versatile bag to have it will help you in a variety of stages. Past 100 yards Target sizes will vary from three to 12 inchs depending upon the distance and position you are shooting from. There is a t y l rack at 150 yd that will start at 6 in and go all the way down to 2 in.

Stock shouldn’t matter much. It’s more the barrel and ammo combo that shoots so well. It shot well before I had the Titan stock it’ll shoot well after it. I’m just a fan of KRG and they finally dropped their 10/22 bravo.

I have already been shooting the hell out of them and they are doing great. I am using them at 200, 250 and 275 and there is not a mark on them , all I'm doing is knocking the paint off. Everyone is going to love shooting at them this year. Thank you again for your hard work.

Sr, I ordered an International Barrel for the T1X, 22" with a schnuble end. Barrel should be here in a few weeks. Probably will add some weight to the KRG Bravo. Also going to glass bed the 10/22 in the Fajan stock and see how it runs. I still need to pillar bed the CZ452 and then we'll see which one I choose. Likely will start off with the 10/22 as I've got to work on speed for these stages.

Sure thing, It is easier for me to post the website link which has all the information about the league, points race, dates (click on the date to register).

It is a private range and the owner doesn't want the address on an open forum. The range is located right off Interstate 35 in Valley View, TX. The actual address with directions is sent out before every match to all registered shooters.

You can always click on the logo in my signature line to get to the website also.

So what’s the rain or shine policy?

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 05/16/21 12:27 AM

We normally shoot rain or shine as long as it’s not lightning.

Registered shooters check your email for the directs and course of Fire.

Thanks to everyone that made it out. It was a miserable and rainy day on Sunday, but we still made it happen. Good turn out.

Points race scores are up on website and being posted to PRS as well.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 05/18/21 05:59 PM

I just wanted to thank those 20 brave souls that weathered the wind in the rain in our May match. They embraced the tough conditions and we ended up having a hell of a good time. Clay knabe took first place, second place was Mikael vesperman , in third place was a tie SR vesperman and Tony Gore . Normally we would do a shoot off for a third place tie but Tony did not want to lose his position.

Groot took first and Clay took second. But you’re right about Tony rofl

I don’t think there would be enough interest to have a handgun match. Possibly enough 22 handgun shooters out there but not sure.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 10/17/21 02:41 AM

PRS central region regional finale was today. Several North Texas shooters performed well today to mention a few, Mikael vesperman and Chris maniquiz we're in a three-way tie for first place. Tony Gohr fifth place, Dan jarecke 7th place, Caleb pulliam 9th place, Paul Reid 10th place, Payton Grimes 12th place, Brandon estep 14th place. That wasn't too bad eight of the top 14 shooters came out of North Texas. That was some good shooting today guys and gals, especially under some tough conditions, but it was a blast .

Peyton shot a rebarreled vudoo .Tony Gohr took 7th place in the open division. Tony shot a rebuilt 40X. Mikael vesperman took 15th place in the open division. Mikael shot a rebuilt 40X. It was an excellent course of fire put on by Prentice wink at Texas precision matches. It was very interesting shooting with and meeting all the shooters from around the country.

Due to the BS our government is doing with online payments anything over $600 per year being reported and taxed we'll no longer be able to accept online credit card payments through my company. I already pay enough taxes LOL.

Sorry for the inconvenience, we'll now only accept cash the morning of the match. Matches this year will be $40 which includes the PRS fee for all shooters. Mulligans this year are still $10, again please bring cash.

You'll still register and squad through practiscore all the registration links are up on our website. You just won't pay online anymore.

Thanks.

Pretty nice day of shooting today. There were some absolute killers there today. I was one rev up on my scope and goose egged a staged or I would have shot a 75 (yes I reshot the stage while waiting on the geriatric squad ahead of us) and wouldn’t have even been close to top ten. Hats off to those guys.

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 04/04/23 04:37 PM

New divisions for PRS Rimfire

(UPDATE)
2.0 PRS Rimfire Equipment & Divisions
The PRS has four Divisions, Open, Production, Semi-Auto and Airgun. All shooters must declare the division in which they will be competing when they register for a PRS match.
Shooters are permitted to shoot in multiple divisions in the same season. All shooters will be scored by default in the Open Division and receive PRS points in the Open division, however, they must register for all other divisions, categories, and classes in which they choose to compete before an event begins. It is imperative for shooters to ensure they are registered in any division, other than the Open Division, for all matches if they plan on competing in multiple Divisions throughout the season. It is the shooter's responsibility to ensure they are scored in the correct divisions, categories, and classes. Failure to do so will result in a Match DQ. The following rules govern each of the division.
Addition of Semi-Auto
2.4 Semi-Auto Division: All semi-auto precision 22 rimfire rifles without restrictions to price will be allowed in competition.
Addition of Airgun
2.5 Airgun Division: Airgun division is for competitors using a rifle that operates with compressed air to fire a pellet or slug in 22, 25 or 30 caliber. Airgun has no restriction on price.
2.5.1 Airguns MUST follow all projectile speed restrictions as other rimfire divisions.
2.5.2 Projectiles must be mass produced. 22 and 25 caliber airguns can use pellets or slugs and cannot exceed a weight limit of 49 grains
2.5.3 Projectiles must be mass produced. 30 caliber airguns are limited to ONLY pellets and cannot exceed a weight limit of 50 grains. NO slugs.
2.5.4 Tethered tanks are not allowed (Tethered tanks are tanks that are NOT physically attached to the rifle, only connected through an air hose).

Re: North Texas Rimfire League (NTxR) - 05/07/23 01:48 PM

Don't forget about summer hours. All matches at NTxR will be starting at 7: 30.am.

❗ New PRS positional match format in the mornings. The range will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. to check your zero and shoot at any other targets at any distance to check your dope. Shooters will only be able to use benches and barricades West of the metal roof and only shoot targets West of Target ( E ). DO NOT SHOOT AT TARGET 300 THAT IS FOR COLD BORE .Anyone wanting to shoot in the cold bore challenge must do that first thing in the morning before any other shooting. Also shooters must check in at the match before doing any shooting. There will be no more parking at the West end of the range.

Lots of good shooters, squad 4 was running far behind the rest of us so I had to leave before they were done but here are the scores for the 3 squads that were done.

I beat Sr so I’m good with my score rofl

Wish I would have taken pics of the course of fire. It was a doozy. Noah won the RimX barreled action. We had a 3 way tie for cold bore between myself, Noah; and Sr then Lorenzo came in late and knocked us all out. He won the $300 cert for Atlas
