OFFICIAL:5th annual THF Long Range Precision Match - 07/18/19 01:42 PM

Saturday Aug 17 2019

*Know your DOPE from the muzzle to 800 yards.
*Come prepared for anything.
*All distances will be given.
*All stages will be timed.
*This is more difficult, smaller targets, longer distances, and shorter par times than the hunting match.
*Shots will be from prone, seated, kneeling and using fixed objects.
*Multiple target distances within one stage, at times.
*Multiple positions within one stage, at times
*Target sizes from 2 MOA down to 1/2 MOA
*Shots will be left hand and right hand.
*Mandatory zero check begins at 0700.
*Match begins at 0800.
*Nothing larger than .30 caliber, and no muzzle velocity over 3200 fps.
*We will cook and eat at noon.
*You will be in the shade all day. It's much cooler at the zero line, than anywhere else on the property.
*Bring snacks and water. Beer when it's over, and the rifles are put away.
*$75 entry fee on Chad's site.
*If you pay, and need to back out, you may sell your entry fee to someone else. That person, and you, need to let me know of the change.
*Spectators welcome and they must sign a waiver.
*Round count 100, bring extra if you can.
*Everyone is very helpful, and will loan you equipment and advice if you need it. Don't sit on the fence, this is a friendly environment, and some impressive shooting takes place. Plenty of trash talk, and comedy all day long.

Range is located:
2213 CR 3835
Wolfe City, TX

It will rain before, so do not go down Fannin CR 3805, because it will be a mud road.

The old thread would be handy

HIJACK ALERT

Just found out there is one slot left on the hunt. DIY, 5 total hunters on 5800 acres between Clayton and Raton, unit 56. Myself and another from this forum are going. $1800, there's a nice barn with hot/cold water/shower and elec. About $300 extra to NM for the antelope tag/carcass tag/treehugger fee. Hunt is Aug 17-18-19th. Maps and scouting reports from previous years are provided by the LO. 4WD not necessary but suggested, especially if it rains.

I can't commit yet. I have so much work right now, I might be forced to schedule jobs for every Saturday in August. If I get caught up and there's still a spot available, I'll be there. Either way, y'all know I'll stop in to see my dudes.

Gear wise, what is needed besides firearm and ammo? Will all the shooting be done from 1 area or do we need to transport gear from station to station?

My availability is a question mark right now, so I'm not signing up til I know for sure I can make it. I think I'm probably better than 50/50 right now though. Hoping I can make it for sure, but haven't shot my rifle in months due to family stuff and grad school.

Bring water/snacks, a cooler, a towel to keep in the cooler to keep your barrel cool, a chair, a hat, and a good attitude. All of the shooting is done from the tower or in the areas directly around the tower, since Jason/Chad know that it's a billion degrees and they're trying to keep everyone in the shade. It's really not that bad out there - it was like 105 last year but we had lots of fans going and lots of cold drinks, so I didn't really sweat much at all. Really fun day.

Yes, even on the hot days you will be almost 100% in the shade all day. If it's a small crowd, I may tune up my 308 Win, 16" hunting rifle to play with.

Tactical pillows? hahaha, I had to google that.
Only rifle matches I have shot have been benchrest and carbine (3 gun style), never used a pillow, lots to learn smile

Haven't used a pillow in 2yrs and you don't see a ton used anymore. The gamechanger and fortune cookie bags are stable enough to run an entire match.

I can't commit yet. I have so much work right now, I might be forced to schedule jobs for every Saturday in August. If I get caught up and there's still a spot available, I'll be there. Either way, y'all know I'll stop in to see my dudes.

The 800 yard line. Some great shooting happened yesterday. For those that do not know. This is a 16", 8", 6", and 4" plate.

[Linked Image]

Looking back to the platform at the zero line. You'll probably have to zoom in to see it. It helps put into perspective just how small three of the targets are from 800 yards away.

Pushing a 162gr at 2820 I had plenty to get it spinning and did just that. Then, I couldn't hit the darned PD to save my azz. That stage was my mulligan, I hit the spinner twice and had it in full rotation, still only hit the PD 3 times. In my defense, Kyle made me go last and by the time I got to it the PD was the same color as the dirt behind it.

LOL

I remember thinking that same thing last year. I think I went 2nd or 3rd on the p-dog and it still had a pretty nice orange outline. By the time we were 3-4 shooters past me, you could barely see the darn thing. Felt bad for them. I think I only got 4 or so. Chad was right after me I think and used his first 2 to get the spinner going and then I think rattled off 7 or 8 straight hits. Darned impressive.
