Talk to me about the 7SAUM

It has peaked my interest lately. 180VLD moving at 3000 FPS sounds great for targets and hunting.

What’s the good and bad?

Talk to Clint. That is a badass little round from what I have seen.

To run 180's like that you will have to go long action or single feed. Other than that it's a beast of a round.

Yep Dee is correct hard to get 3000fps with 180gr but is a good round if you reload. Brass and factory ammo is a little tough to come by too.

If you are using a long action anyway, why not get the regular Remgington ultramag?

Which is why a regular ole 7 Rem Mag might make more sense. It'll make 3000 fps with a 26" barrel. And I've got so much brass now, I'll give you some.

Well, that's not "regular" when it comes to brass.

I used one for years in a Model Seven. Best caliber ever made in the Model Seven in my opinion. Big problem if you don't reload though because factory ammo is super scarce!

I’ve always wanted anothe 300WM after I sold mine. But I want this one to be more of a target rifle than light weight hunting rifle. I don’t mind walking with a 15 pound rifle.

I don’t know why the idea of a 7SAUM creeped into my head, maybe the short action, maybe because it seems better than a 300WSM, mine becaus I like the idea of pushing 180 grain bullet at 2900-3000 FPS and having a very high BC bullet.

If Chad would take payments I would’ve bought his 7/300

LOL! For you, Wade, I'd take payments!!

The 7 Saum would be a good one built on a long action. If you build it on a short action, there's a lot of planning with the magazine lengths, short action feeding, and bullet ogive issues. The long action will solve this. Plus you will get more velocity on the long action seating the bullet out long, increasing your powder capacity, and going to a slower burning powder. You can get brass for the 7 Saum now. Norma makes some, as well as some custom brass makers now.

My 300WM is pushing 225 eldm 2900. Guesstimate G1 .780 G4 .395. 28” barrel. Granted it weighs probably 20 lbs

If weight is not an issue I don’t see any advantage to having one over a 7mm Rem Mag - and several disadvantages.
