Remington Model 700

Anyone planning on buying a new out of the box Remington model 700 this year?

And if so, are you planning on getting from a big box store or your local gun store?

Lastly, will you do any mods to it, such as a Timney trigger?

yes if the price is right. Always looking for a good deal on a 700 action.

I'm not looking for one now but I probably will before the summer is over. Hunting season is a long way off. I still like what I end up with after I replace the trigger, install pillars, then bed and float a 700.

Still love my Remington 700 ADl Varmint heavy barrel after all these years.... still shoots sub MOA with no mods, can guarantee I drop a whitetail within 200 yards without thinking twice!

They got approved for Chapter 11 and the Judge agreed to letting them take a loan for $75m.

I've thought about picking up a 700, but would put a Timney trigger in it for my peace of mind.

But with so many other choices, my confidence in the company right now to produce a quality product, I'll probably go with a different brand.

Started the thread just being curious if others who are in the market would even consider buying a Remington right now.

I've always like Remington, I have a 788 and an older 700 and both shoot well. However, after seeing what my Tikka does and the build quality of it compared to the current Remingtons, I wouldn't even consider buying a new one unless it was at a very steep discount.

I LOVE the OLD BDL Varmint Specials. I am always looking for one but they are priced pretty high or wrong caliber

I had an incredibly accurate one in .222 , Circa 1973, had the old pressed Fleur De Lis stamped checkering. an of course I think this gun started me with my habit I still today.

I had Allan Hall at Shilen Rifles. do a trigger job (OLD TRIGGER of course) Plus he bedded it with "liquid Steel" ???, put a Canjar trigger shoe on it with a hand me down Lyman All American 10X scope. I began reloading it with Ball C and the ever popular today 52gr Sierra Match King flat base., Did my first ladder test

do not go with the timney get a trigger Tech instead it is cheaper and works much better.timneys tend to fail at the most inopportune time

I have a 2012 RMEF model that is excellent quality. It was some time after that that they started their decline in quality. There's nothing dangerous or bad about the newer trigger. Mine is extremely crisp.

The stock trigger in the 700 I have feels pretty good after I adjusted it but not great. I can't comment on its safety. I'm having the rifle worked on as we speak so I'm replacing with Timney. If the new Rem. triggers are safe, there good to go for hunting and casual shooting in my opinion.

You are literally the first person I’ve ever heard say they have had a Timney fail. Please elaborate.

I was wondering about that too. Almost all my rifles get a Timney as soon as they are acquired.

I have quite a few Timneys and have never had a problem. Where are you buying Trigger Tech's cheaper than Timneys? I just ordered another Timney for about a hundred bucks and looked at Trigger Tech's after hearing good things. I couldn't find one close to the same price
