AR9

AR9 - 02/17/18 03:18 AM

In the market, or soon to be, for an AR9. Not ruling out a CZ Scorpion either, but let’s keep this related to the AR9.

What do you have, what do you like or dislike about it? Right now, I’m seeing PSA for $550. I’m digging that price as it allows me to change what I want. I have a drop in trigger for an Ar15, I assume that can be used in an AR9?

And if you want to trade the one you have for a CMMG 308, pM me

This is not want you asked, i know

I have a Ar15 and 10. I want a 9 bad

But I really think Ruger is going to give us a new semi in .45 acp

So I haven't bought their new PC9 yet

For what it's worth...

Lol. I was going to text you, but I’m drunk and forgot. Does the Colt take Glock mags?

The Colt takes Colt mags. Circle Quarter 10 makes lowers for glock mags but I have no experience with them. Feel like I read somewhere recently that someone was going to make a lower that takes P226 mags

The fact you have to SBR these makes my dick itch. It is a pistol round in a pistol length barrel with a handy stock. Such BS

Not 100% sure I’m going to SBR it. With my long arms I like to reach out towards the end of the barrel for support, and SBR puts me in a weird position

So a couple of things...

Not all ar15 trigger packs will work. Some use lightened hammers and that doesn’t play well in some ar9

Magazine compatibility is critical. There are at least 3 different types of mag lowers for ar9. Colt, hk, and glock. Glock is quickly becoming the preferred one but there are others out there

Do you want a dedicated lower and one with an adapter

Take a look if it has last round bolt open. Some don’t so you do not realize mag is empty until it goes click (unless you count shots)

Personally I think sbr is the way to go. Ballistics on a 16in 9mm arent stellar. If you want to go crazy Sbr with a can that can run under a hand guard so you still have something to hold

9mm have almost no kick so you don’t need a super aggressive hold

What is your intent?

I have three, all take Glock mags, two are from Lone Wolf (one is SBR) and one from PSA. None of mine have a last round hold open feature but I haven't missed it for my uses. All of mine run well, The Lone Wolf guns both have BCM PNT triggers, the PSA has a Rock River Varmint 2-stage. I run the SBR with a Silencerco Octane silencer.

PSA carbine

Good luck.

Yes I want a dedicated lower. And yes I want it to use Glock mags because of availability. Last doing hold back doesn’t bother me, use is just plinking

9x19, I really like that PSA Carbine.

I really have no use for a SBR. If I ever suppress it then I would SBR it, but the noise of the 9mm doesn’t bother me without hearing protection

If you watch PSA for sales, you can get the complete upper and lower for around $500 combined.

I like SBRs for silencer use, but the carbines are a lot of fun too.

My PSA has a linear comp from Kaw Valley and it helps redirect the muzzle report down range.

Re: AR9 - 02/17/18 04:40 PM

Karris Guns has them also for fairly cheap. You can order the upper you want and their complete lower separately, orders over $150 ship free. Obviously the lower ships to an FFL but they take Glock mags. Doesn’t have LRBHO. Mine ran perfect, I only sold it to find another build that I would use more often.

If you are willing to bump up your budget the Wilson Combat is awesome. I have the 8" pistol and love it. Everyone that shoots it grins and says "I want one!"

I recently swapped out the Shockwave blade for this new "brace" that is adjustable LOP

Re: AR9 - 02/17/18 07:04 PM

I vote Scorpion!! lol I'm really liking this thing and such a small package with the side folder. Even if you go AR with 8" barrel and brace it's still a decent size once I get the brace in I'll take some side by side pics with my 8" 300BLK SBR with the LWRC Micro stock which is even shorter than regular AR15 stock.

Re: AR9 - 02/17/18 07:35 PM

Here are some measurements. Don't have the folder on it yet but it just takes place of the existing trunion on the Scorpion so it won't add any length to it. The Scorpion is 16" overall folded and the 8" 300BLK SBR is 24" with the micro stock and with a regular stock or brace it would be 26" overall. So about 10" shorter give or take.

Re: AR9 - 02/18/18 01:44 PM

I've got a PSA that I've had for a while.
It's my goto gun to carry around in my Mule.
It jammed on the second round but has ran without a hiccup since then and now has a little over 1K rounds thru it.

The kids and granddaughter like it as it looks and functions just like a standard AR but has soft recoil.
It easily shoots 2" or less groups at 50 yards and can easily ring an 8" gong at 100 yards.
