Interesting Pawn shop offerings

Interesting Pawn shop offerings - 01/29/18 08:08 PM

Visited a local pawn shop this morning and they had several guns I don't think you see that often-at least I don't.

Winchester Model 94 NRA commemorative 30-30 musket still has hang tag and clerk said they have the original box.

S&W Model 10-3 snub nose

S&W Model 10 4 inch barrel

Miroku .38 special (almost identical to S&W Model 10 but with a Colt style cylinder release)

Ruger Security Six .357 with 2 3/4 (or 2 9/16 whatever) inch barrel (I bought an identical Security Six from the same shop about 6 months ago-but in better condition and at a much better price)

I don't visit that many pawn shops but this particular one seems to have guns that I don't find anywhere else.

I just thought it was worth mentioning and wondered if anyone else finds uncommon guns that often in pawn shops or LGS for that matter.

i always hit the pawn shop towards the end of the month when the meth heads start running outta cash. bought a winchester model70 safari express 375 with 1x4 leupold for 550 out the door past saturday. i really needed it cool

last month a snagged a remington 600 in 257 roberts cheap
last september i traded a guy in the parking lot a POS savage axis 308 with a cheap scope for a winchester 94 in 32 special and early summer i bought a browning Abolt from a fella walking out with it. he told me it was "broke" and wouldnt chamber a shell. when he threw in a box of brand new 7mm rem mag ammo for it i grabbed it for 250 and he was glad to get it. it was a 7mm-08!!

theres some real winners around here i tell you

My Aunt works for a PD and her job is to run the pawn tickets against the database for stolen goods etc. So I am sure some stuff is not caught but you would be surprised how much is.

I don't have any concerns about the shops I go to. I've only bought a couple used guns as mostly I order new through the shop.

I have looked at some pawnshops here in town. Most of the time I can buy brand new for the price they want for their stuff.

They are willing to negotiate if you care to, I don't. I find most pawn shop operators to be...not nice people.

Best deal I ever got was a guy at work whose buddy went to prison. The inmate told him to sell his guns and put the money in his prison account. He knew I was into guns and asked me to make an offer. I gave him $300 for Win. model 100 in 308 and a 300 win. mag. Sold the win. mag for $150 and a 10/22. I got a 308 and 10/22 for $150. Same guy gave me a 22lr revolver one time. Said it was given to him to hold before the cops showed at a domestic dispute call. After a week or so, I decided to give it to the Euless police dept. It made me too nervous to own.

If pawn shop has it I look at price they have it marked and if I know it is retail I ignore it but collector guns I see price that is right out of book of values I figure they only have about 50-60% of price in the gun and start haggling. Most time they have a 60% neighborhood profit margin.

I worked in a pawnshop for years while attending high school and college. As noted, things were generally priced well above what we had in them so general rule of thumb is to always haggle. If they want to sell, they will come down.

As for stolen material. I cannot speak for all states but in Texas pawnbrokers are required to give copies of all material purchased/pawned to both the Sherriff's office and Police Department (or they were when I worked there). We NEVER intentionally took in stolen merchandise and if we so much as suspected it was stolen we wouldn't take it either. The SO/PD would catch it (this was back when things were manually checked, I imagine it's all automated these days), come in and claim the stolen merchandise and the shop would lose whatever money they had paid to loan or buy it. We had to hold items that were purchased or pawned for a period to ensure the checks took place so that we wouldn't sell something that had been stolen and have the police show and not have the merchandise. In the years I worked there that never ever happened. What did happen is a very few times when they noted something as stolen, they would come in and pick it up for their case and we would have to testify in court or by affidafit of who sold/pawned it. It was a great place for a young man to work...the darn pawnshop always got most of my paycheck though smile

Talked with a guy today at Cinnamon Creek Archery Range, he had a barely used top of the line Hoyt with all the expensive Spott Hogg stuff about $1500 in stuff, He paid $400. It was left handed though
