Dang you JG Fireman !!! - 01/26/18 06:59 PM

That picture of the 80ge AMAX made me go "BOING" !!!

SO

Thinking about re-barreling this Remy 5R, .223 (the Star of the Hunting Rifle Challenge) in to a .224 Valkyrie..

Good Idea??? The gun shoots .5-.75 now with 77grain MK's (see target) But maybe a little more OOOMMMPPPHH with the 80gr.will turn the "spinner" with 3 shots???

This is my favorite rifle for just "shooting:, its short 20" barrel, fairly light and pretty accurate.

I think since the Valkyrie is made for a semi auto, the 20" barrel will still be VERY FAST???

I'll talk with Trigger Time and Mickal at the match about it

If it ain't broke DON'T fix it. If I had a gun shooting that good I would leave it alone. 2cents

Fast twist 223ai or straight 223 is where it's at. 224 requires bolt work and propriety brass. This is a 10shot group at 642yds with a 223ai with a 21" barrel Running an 80gr vld at 2906fps.

.5 to .75 is good.

It can be better.

Re: Dang you JG Fireman !!! - 01/26/18 07:29 PM

Terrible idea IMO.

As Dee points out too much work required for what you are getting.

Buy a box of ELD's and try them you are 1:9 but you might get lucky and have them stabilize, if they don't you can trade JG the left over bullets for range time. When you wear out the barrel then move to AI version.

Re: Dang you JG Fireman !!! - 01/26/18 07:30 PM

Buzz,

Like I said earlier, I'm expecting the .223 A.I. to shoot very well, while fire forming. Then once it's formed I'm expecting it to shoot a bit tighter, and quite a bit faster. I have 200 pices of Lapua, and am considering buying another 100 to 200. So I'll have quite a bit of brass to get fire formed, but once it is, look out!

If your looking at the Valkyrie I'm assuming ammos cost isn't a big thing. Why not redo it to 22-250

That would involve a new bolt.

Well sure, but I'm sure that cost would easily be lost in whatever he decides to do.

It was a much needed glove. Temps were in the 40's while I was shooting but dropped as the sun feel and the ranger has no windshield.

223AI is a great idea, twisted 7 for the 80's or 8 for anything lighter. Been shooting one for about a decade with excellent results. Have a new tube ready as its starting to open up a bit now.

Two ways to get to A.I. brass.

1.Shoot it, and fire form it.
2.Buy and use a hydraulic forming die.

2.Buy and use a hydraulic forming die.

sounds expensive and a pain

Because no other type hammer would work.

Because you're not more than 7 minutes from somewhere to buy a damn hammer.

I've made two hammers from scratch. One I cut the tree down, milled the wood, and formed it into a handle. Tony uses it almost daily. And you're bitching about buying one?

bang
