Anyone tell me the difference in Abolt 1 and Abolt II?

Abolt 2 has a shiny plate area on the side of the bolt you can engrave your name on if you want. Stock has a palm swell also. The Abolt 2 seems to have a different type of plastic for the stock also. The 1 had a black stock that would get a grey color to it with time. The 2's that I have seen stay more of a satin black over time.

I don't think I've ever seen an original A-bolt but I've read it had a fluted bolt.

Almost positive the only one with an adjustable trigger is the 3. I had a 2 and I had to change out the spring.

aggiehunter - That article by Browning is almost worthless. It does a good job of stating the differences between A-bolt IIs and A-bolt 3s and X-bolts, but doesn't give any mention at all of the difference between Is and IIs.

My memory of the A-bolt II is that it does have an adjustable trigger.

All I've found on the A-bolt I is that it had a fluted bolt and a partial bolt shroud, whatever that means.

Here's a link to an early A-bolt for sale. Look at the photos and you can see the fluted bolt.

Armslist

That ad is wrong about one thing. It says that is a 1981 A-bolt, but the A-bolt was introduced in 1985. Before that was the BBR - Browning Bolt Rifle.

Just looking at the photo, it appears that the A-bolt I didn't have the non-rotating bolt sleeve that the II had (and which made it so smooth to operate).

I have an A-bolt 1 made in 93. It has an adjustable trigger.

Another difference, according to Chuck Hawks is that the II has a chrome plated sear that the A-bolt I didn't have.
