What features do you want? What is your price range? Is there a specific model that you are interested in?

I'd wait for Black Friday. That's what I did about 5-6 years ago. That rifle is gone and has now been replaced with several others. But I don't regret getting the first one which I think was like $500.

Good thing for is that ar's are cheaper than they've ever been thanks to the greed of retailers and america's best gun salesman ever Barak Obama.

Thanks. I wait for Black Friday to shop around then.

Yep, Black Friday or wait until January. So many firearms dealers I spoke to stocked up on AR's expecting a gun craze like when Obama was elected. Now that Trump won there's not going to be any 'scare' purchasing. I bet the deals on AR's specifically will be insane as stores try to dump inventory they over purchased.

Cabelas Black Friday ad is out. The DPMS Oracle will be $499.00. I'd still hold out tho, as Academy tends to have better sales/prices for the day after turkey day. Grab a gun is another to keep an eye on. Good luck!

For any gun purchase, first study what you need and really want, then look for the best price on that specific piece of equipment.

Least expensive is not always the cheapest in the long run.

Everything I ever bought "because it was a good price" is long gone with the money wasted and the savings illusory. The few I thought about in advance and then shopped are still in the safe.

Watch Palmetto State Armory for deals. I just changed my SBR over to 300BLK and still have a ton of 223 ammo so I waited around and bought some of their deals and just pieced them together. Got an upper with SS 416R barrel and 15" keymod rail, Magpul lower, AIMSURPLUS NiB BCG, and Strike Industries charging handle. All done after FFL fee for the lower I'm still right at $600 for the rifle. PSA makes good stuff, I'm not a huge fan of their CS and shipping times but I have to say this last time PSA shipping was great. All the used AR15's in the classifieds or really anywhere are going to be more expensive than new. A lot of these guys bought these guns/parts during the panic and paid a premium for them. They're trying to sell them used for more than they are new now.

Of course there are guys that have top quality parts builds that they probably have 2K in the gun but the reality of the AR15 market is they're just not worth it anymore.

I say if you want top of the line and are going to keep it then build it exactly the way you want. If you're ever planning on reselling it buy a factory gun and go a bit cheaper. The "custom built" AR's are not selling for what people have in them.

I you go cheap, don't forget you're going to need to upgrade the trigger. That's $100-200 bucks.

I am by no means an expert but I love AR gunstruction projects.
I agree with KRoyal.
PSA is pretty good especially for the money. I have a 10.5" CHF 300blk and a 16" midlength premium upper from them. Both are great.

In the myriad of the AR part market I tend to stay with the big name companies and also focus on the build materials.

Also, if you do go with PSA's barrels, I really like their CHF or premium barrels. They are made by FN in South Carolina. Good quality at a good price.

If it's your first one I would go order PSA lower, lower build kit, complete upper, CMC trigger, and get a decent 1-6x scope for it. That would take care of most of your needs.

This will really depend on what you are looking for... If you want a cheap AR like a DPMS, Sport II, Ruger AR-556, etc., then Black Friday will be your best bet. If you are looking for higher end, like Daniel Defense, Colt, etc., then I doubt you will find much that interests you in the big box stores.

Like everything else in life (mostly), you get what you pay for. Are you looking for a good base platform to build on or an AR that's compete. Are you looking for lower, mid, upper level quality? Are you looking for the best deal or best bang for your buck. There are a lot of options that range from approximately $400 to $2,500.

You stated this is your first AR. Do your homework and you'll find the right one for you.

Good advice right there.

I upgraded 3 of mine with a $60 trigger. Not every gun needs a match trigger. Sometimes a really good 5.5 lb trigger is plenty.

Good to know. I have no familiarity with these but they appear to be an alternative.
