Recommendation for trigger job in San Antonio - 08/07/14 01:27 PM

I'm looking for someone to do a trigger job on my Remington 700 270 in San Antonio. Anyone have a recommendation other than Nagels?

What's wrong with Nagels? I was thinking about having them do some work on my colt 1911. They did some work for me way back about 30 years ago, and did a great job.

I've never had Nagels do smithing work for me, but EVERY time I go in there they provide the most unresponsive service I've every seen in a retail store and I simply choose to take my business elsewhere.

I've had Durys do some work and they're good, but I wondered if there was another smith in town who was worth using?

New Braunfels Gun Works
AKA Hill Country Rifles
I have had good luck with them.

I can share the exact same sentiment about Nagels... their name should be Dicks.

The phrase "know your limits" comes immediately to mind. This isn't an expensive gun, but I'm not confident enough to do it myself. Could just buy a timney and drop it in, but I'd rather pay someone competent a fair price and hopefully it will make a difference.

Thanks for the info, guys.

I'm surprised at the negative toward Nagels. I travel to San Antonio on a regular basis. Always stop by Nagels. I've never had a bad experience there. Guess I've just always been there at the right time.

Nagel's ain't far from me but I have only been there once, during the great ammo scare. They were 2x - 3x what the ABCs (Academy, BassPro, and Cabelas) wanted for the same ammo.
I have never been back.

On a 700 I would just drop a timney in it. It won't cost you that much more and you know you will be in good shape for years.

Howard Dietz at Dietz Gun Shop and range. He can do a good job on it. I trust him.
