204 is an accurate flat shooting screamer of a round.

Well I really like mine it's VERY accurate.
coyotes, head shot on hogs and one deer (head shot)

Pros: Flat as a laser and very fast. Generally great accuracy. Tiny recoil means you can usually see the hit thru the scope.
Cons: Small bullet at 40 grs. Not applicable for anything bigger than a yote.

In my opinion, the .22-250 is more versatile, and if I had to choose I'd take it over the .204.

The 204 is good for other applications as mentioned, but it seems like it was made for the prairie dog fields. Great combination of ballistics and enough energy to 'splode a PD. And see your hit (or misses).
So far 575 yds was my longest kill on a PD w/a 204, but it was dumb enough to let me learn the wind through 4 misses.
It would not be my #1 choice for yotes, but nor should you feel handicapped at typical ranges. The 39-40gr pills (or 35gr Bergers) are potent.
I almost exclusively reload Sierra 39gr Blitzking's in mine.
I think there is a "non-lead" offering out this year for the 204R; a 24gr at 4300+ fps. I'm picturing crow or PD explosions with that one!

When you buy one you will continue to spend money because nothing fits. You are also looking at new cleaning rods as 22s just don't fit. Cleaning patches, jags, case trimming pilots and those little bitty bullets are just a pain in the XXX when handloading. I had one and went back to the 22/250. The caliber is just too limited in what you can use it for when responsibly taking game. The only thing I see as a plus is speed and accuracy which most small rifles easily match when comparing overall performance in the field.

The 204 is a great little round. It will shoot ballistically right with the 22-250, but you have no recoil.
Handloading is a pain because of the small bullets, but that's just part of it. Factory ammo is expensive and handloading is the only way to make it affordable to plink and play with.

I love the .204.....like it better than .233 for accuarcy out to 300+ yards. I don't hand load so cant comment there. I don't shoot 1000's of round so factory stuff work just fine for me. I love the HSM stuff 39 gain.

HSM 39 gr are awesome.

Hornady once loaded 45 gr. soft points, wish i could find a few boxes of those.

Dont care for the 32 gr v max unless its a jack or a coon.

Pros - never used it for anything but pdogs, love being able to see the carnage as it happens due to the light recoil. Super flat and super accurate out to 600 yards with mine. The most accurate rifle in my safe.

Cons - I don't like cleaning it, no patches exist for it that work without trimming. It can be tough to reload, especially flat based bullets (I load the Berger 35's), but when you sit down and load a few hundred you start to get a rythym and figure out all its quirks. Light bullet weight and low bc means the wind is gonna mess with you a bit more than some of the larger bullets.

I agree with others on purchasing a 22-250 over the .204 for all the reasons above. The .2o04 is just too limited to what it can do.

I'll take a .22-250 over a .204 anyday!

204 = another marketing ploy......and I bought into it, LOL. It's fast, it's accurate, no complaints from me. I don't handload yet so I shoot the Hornady 32 gr VMAX (found a deal online and bought a bunch of ammo for $14 a box). It won't do anything (that I'm aware of) that a 22-250, 220 Swift or 223 will do, it's just a newer round that's a little different and fun to shoot. I've earholed a 150 lb. hog and taken a few coyotes with mine.
