TRULOCK- IMPROVE YOUR WATERFOWL HUNTING

Peering over the edge of your blind, the ducks are lining up for a landing right in the middle of your decoy spread. Orange feet drop, wings start to backpedal for a landing and the command to "take them" brings on a barrage of shotgun fire.

With seasoned waterfowlers on the trigger, the back row of birds collapse from the sky first. Little tricks, like shooting the back birds first means the ones that have almost landed are stretching skyward, closer to your blind for a second and third shot.

There are a lot of tricks and tips to improve your waterfowl hunting, but nothing trumps plain old practice. The more you shoot your shotgun, the better the shot placement downrange. Eye and hand coordination need to be in perfect sync to hit the target with consistency.

Running the right choke in your gun will also increase your hunting success and experience. Not only will you harvest more birds, but you will do it with clean and ethical kills. Some might call the "choke game" cheating, but Trulock calls it smart thinking and management.

Trulock Chokes offers a selection of chokes to improve your waterfowl hunting whether the birds are right in your face or stretching the limits of your shotgun. The cylinder bore and improved cylinder work great for decoying birds. Mid-range birds drop with regularity with a modified choke with a 0.20 constriction.

The Super Waterfowl Chokes from Trulock Chokes maximize range when shooting steel shot. Trulock Chokes makes three degrees of full choke constriction, turning your shotgun into a customized pattern placer. The Full #1 has a .030 constriction and is designed for shot sizes F through BB. The Full #2 has a .040 constriction for shot sizes B through #3. The Full #3 has a 0.50 constriction and is designed to maximize the pattern for shot size #4 and smaller.

The variations in choke constriction take the shot size into account, tightening patterns to reach farther. We often wait long stretches for opportunity, so use the right choke to maximize your success.

Here is a Waterfowl Choke rundown from Trulock Chokes to give you an advantage:
  • Cylinder Bore, (.000 constriction) for shooting at close range, such as in thick timber and usually about 30 yards. This choke with most steel loads using # 2 or larger shot will give a nominal improved cylinder pattern.
  • Improved Cylinder, (.010 constriction) for shooting at midrange such as typically found when using decoys and usually about 35 yards. As above most loads using # 2 steel will give a nominal modified pattern.
  • Modified, (.020 constriction) for a longer range such as pass shooting. Usually at 40 or 40 plus yards. Again, most loads of # 2 steel or larger when used with this choke will give a full choke pattern.
  • Close Range = Skeet 1, - Mid Range or Decoy = Skeet 2/ Lite Mod, - Pass or Long Range = Imp Mod
