Upcoming Active Duty Free Hog Hunts

Just wanted to put out that in a couple of months I will be offering free hog hunts to Active Duty Military.

I got permission from my lease manager to do one or two per month. They will be alllowed to take one hog, any size. You can bow or gun hunt. I will let anyone without a gun, borrow my AR-15. I will guide them and every now and then someone else might take a hunt or two for me. I am working on maybe a free place to stay and free food.

This place is north of Houston a couple miles from Splendora. It is a 10,000 acre lease. It is about 2 hours from Fort Polk.

For those who would like, the lease manager might be able to do a dog hunt every now and then.

I hope to have this up and running after Thansgiving.

I know I will get a lot of responses and I'll put them in order of recieved. Right now, I am just getting a feeling of who might be interested.

From a VET, I think that is a great thing you are doing for active duty members. Thanks for supporting them and giving them a break.

That's a fantastic thing you are doing and especially in this economy.

Everything nowdays is expensive, and to be able to do something like that for free is pretty rare.

You will be rewarded for your generosity.

Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

Bulldawg,

I've been active duty for 15 years and am very interested. Let me know what I can do (if anything) to get on your list. I live about 35 miles south of Houston.

Thanks for this opportunity you are giving to the AD military.

HAPPY HUNTING

I'm in contact with Fort Hood's Warrior Transition Unit (all wounded/injured AD guys).

If you want, i've been trying to set up something similar for them on a much smaller property (several hundred acres).

They would be interested, and have their own gear.

Active Duty Army here, I would love to take part if there's ever any room. Regardless, this is a great thing you're doing!

Makes me wish I hadn't retired two months ago.

I think it's great you're doing this for the active duty servicemembers.

I would be interested as well. That is in my neck of the woods. I am from Dayton, TX, but stationed at Lackland right now.

I wouldn't mind paying for my own food and lodging. That's the easy part...

Yes a great thing! Active duty here and living in Illinois while I heal up. Unable to put weight on my leg and sitting at home makes me realize just how wonderful what you are doing really is.

Thanks for all.

Thanks for all the interest. I am still working on all the details. I was offered another 25,000 acres to use also, so I am up to 35,000 acres right now. My lease manager told me that one of the COE higher ups wants to pitch in some land opportunities, so I might have a lot more land to use than the original 35,000 acres I have.

I am working on the paperwork to be a non-profit to get some sponsors and possibly some grants. At the very least I can do what I have already set out to do.

I am looking to start the free hunts somewhere around the middle of December. Depending on how many deer I kill, I might have one tag left for a deer to give away in December.

More to come as I get things wrapped up.

Im active duty at fort hood right now (Originally from Lufkin texas) and my unit deploys in late jan of 2010. It is very hard to find a good place to hunt around fort hood that doesnt have outrageous lease and trophy fees. Is there anyway that I would be able to take advantage of this oppertunity before I deploy?

Bulldawg,

I just read your thread and I think its fantastic. I am not active duty military, nor have I ever been. I was raised in a military family though and honor runs deep. I'll hold back a deer tag for you if you get the hunt going. I'll need to know where to send it. I will of course send it with the accompanying letter signing it over to you or your foundation. I can probably get at 2 more tags donated. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks for your efforts. Keep up the good work.

I know you are new to THF, but there is such a thing as the THF express which is the opportunity to catch a ride with a member when they are heading from say Kileen to Houston or Splendora where this hunt takes place. This might help with costs.

How would I go about jumping on the "THF Express"?
Or meeting up with a member for a hunt?

I just joined THF today, and I've got to say I've enjoyed it so far. I'm active duty out of Ft. Hood and on my last week of 1 year tour. There are about 6 of us out of our platoon ranging from ages 20 to 35 who cannot wait to get home and do some hunting. Rifles and hunting seem to be dominating our every conversation. When I read this post I knew I'd come to the right place. Even if the free hunt goes somewhere else, I have to say thanks for looking out for soldiers.

Bulldawg,

I work at Ft Hood on Div Staff and am willing to transport soldiers to your place for their hunts.

I also have some young soldiers I am mentoring that I would like to bring if spots open up.
