Oh, the stories that gear might tell!

Thanks for sharing that.

Fun video overall. In my previous life as an archaeologist whose focus was on prehistoric diets and hunting (zooarchaeology), I was a little saddened by the note of the throwing stick being used for bird or recreation. I have read a lot of ethnographies and never seen where these were described as being used for recreational purposes anymore than bows and arrows. He notes that they are sometimes called rabbit sticks. I actually published a paper on a Mimbres bowl painting that shows them in use during a rabbit drive. They were used for hunting a variety of generally smaller animals, not just birds. However, the one thing they should not be called is boomerangs as they don't come back. They do resemble boomerangs in the sense that they are curved and usually flattened (as shown in the example from the Museum of the Big Bend), but the functional difference between the two is that boomerangs do come back and throwing sticks do not. What is shown in the video does appear to be a curved stick, but does not appear to be a throwing stick as was used by native Americans for hunting.

The central plains were well populated, lots of 'towns', etc. Mississippians had very large settlements.

I’ve heard one settlement along the river was 20k + people.

There are actually earthen pyramids built in one of the Midwest states, Wisconsin or Illinois, I can’t remember which.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Mississippians evidently covered the US east of the Mississippi river. Mostly famers, where the plains people were more hunters - more Bison around. Colorado and west was more 'mexican indian' peoples. Lifestyle modified to fit the geography.

I think most of my points are atlatl points. My understanding is the points used with a bow are the smaller ones. Like the top left one in driftwood257's picture

I've often thought it's in a man's DNA to own many weapons, as is cleaning and caring for them.
