Planted about 2 acers of soybeans today next to my winter oats. Hope to make my place a deer magnet year around. Rain headed this way tonight and tomorrow should be in good shape. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/04/full-63244-450676-img_5756.jpg)

Cool. Should be good timing with the rain! I put out 100# of Spring Deer Mix on a few acres last week before the rains hit, and plants are already 2" tall today! Looks like some great soil - similar to mine. I'll be adding in arrow-leaf clover in the fall planting- It's done really well with great re-seeding in my 'poor soil' test spots with no fertilizer (seed is inoculated) !

My experience with soybeans was if they find them and get on them early on, they can wipe out a couple acres in very short order. All that will be left is 8-12” twigs sticking out of the ground. The iron clay cowpeas seemed to grow much more aggressively and handle grazing pressure much better. Hopefully you have better luck. Either way, it looks great and I look forward to progress pictures.

I will second the grazing pressure on the soybeans...I hope you can get a stand to survive the browsing of many deer.
Only way I could put in soybeans is to do around 7-10acres or more. I tried several plots of an acre plus many years back and they sprouted, but then got wiped clean.
I have great results from just letting my fall plots grow out. I have plenty of clover that gets browsed well into the summer. And that helps the soil with nitrogen.
At some point, when I have a little more time and money, I do plan to turn one of my pastures into a soy field. But it will take quite a bit of work and time and money...all of which I am short on lately.
