This morning my good friend, Larry Weishuhn and I recorded an episode for his Podcast. We have know each other for over 30 years and have hunted many together many times. No preparation necessary as Larry gives me and call and he starts recording. This morning we talked a little about predator calling, calling mule deer, rifles, rainfall and plans for the remainder of the year. Also had a chance to reminisce some of the fun hunts we had back in the 90's down in South Texas.
I will try to let you know when this podcast will air.
Thanks and Adios,
Gary

Normally we do the podcast when we are in a hunting camp somewhere but we did this one over the phone. I was sitting at the house in Menard and Larry was at his house in Brenham. We do hunt together at least two or three times a year and work shows together.
I met Larry in the late 80's but really got to know him when I groomed my oldest son, Clint to compete in the World Deer Calling Championships back in the mid-90's. Clint was 15, competed against all ages and won the first three championships. Larry was always a judge at these events.
Adios,
Gary

I met Larry years ago and he was a super nice guy. I was living in Corpus at the time, and I stopped by Academy to grab some steel shot. He was there behind the gun counter hanging out talking to customers. Super cool experience. That was probably 20+ years ago at this point.

Met Mr. Weishuhn, 20+years ago down at Las Cazadores in Pearsall on a trip to hunt between Aguilares and San Ygnacio. Two things struck me, he was younger looking in person than seeing on TV and he was taller than thought, probably 6'3 or so As mentioned, he is a nice, polite guy.

5 years or so back, I met him at Rebecca Creek Distillery when some friends hosted a safari guy's operation and had a little event . The person running the show introduced us whereupon I immediately remarked he looked older than he did on TV. The hostess remarked, "Yep Larry, that's Hud.":

An old friend has guided him a couple of times and he has some stories. Seems to be a nice and very common sensical kinda man.

Ive been around him many times. I was completely ate up with learning all I could about deer hunting and management in the 80s. Thats when Trophy hunting really took off. I soaked up all I could from him, and others. He did a little seminar in a small gun shop in Dallas and I was front and center with questions. Later he did an overnight hands on training thing at the Nail Ranch and I was there to learn all I could. It was very poorly attended so lots of one on one. Larrys write ups about Shackleford County really helped put it on the map.
When I wanted to start hunting South Texas in the late 80s Larry told me about Gary Machen and Gary got me on some country he had in Webb. Larry genuinely tries to help anyone he can.
Larry has always been a very down to earth type guy.
He is always at the TWA Annual Convention and Statewide Tx Big Game Awards in San Anton in mid July. He is very approachable if you want to visit with him.

Larry was raised near Columbus and his family owned land in the area. He still owns some property there. Brenham is close to the property.
Adios,
Gary

Some friends of mine use him for game mgt advice on their rather large STX ranch - they have nothing but, nice things to say about him.

I forgot, in the late 80s on my first S Tx lease I flew in the chopper with him on a survey.
I was surprised he was in Brenham cause I always associated him with Uvalde.

He lived in Uvalde for years while working in South Texas.
