Was very concerned as th the lack of rain in Dickens county until last week. Less then half the 10 year historical average of 5 inches since January at 2 inches actual. To date we have now had an additional 8 inches or 10.5 inches. Timing is amazing as we should have incredible conditions for our new fawns in the next 2 months. At 77 I dont need any poor seasons like we experienced 2 and 3 years ago when no fawns survied the horrible draught consitions.
Last year was our best year in 12 years when 5 of our family member hunters harvested their individual best. Quite a number of excellent bucks were still roaming free at the end of the season. With a limited window to my future I may still have a few good hunts on the horizon!!!

You got that right, looking good for Briscoe as well. Two good snows, one recent actually, and now good rains are setting us up for great conditions.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I have been at my deer lease west of Wellington in Collingsworth County the last few days getting one of my tower blinds stood back up after the March winds got it and they had a major rain Friday night and Saturday morning. I don't know how much but many of the pastures were totally under water. They also had a decent snow two weeks ago and one in March as well so all of the farmers are happy. The place was as green as I have ever seen it with more quail and turkey than I can remember. It should be a great year for a higher fawn crop as well as good antlers.

We had great quail last year, but by the time the season rolled around it seemed that they had suffered a big setback. They were still there, just not in the big #'s we were seeing leading up to the season. I'm hoping that we see what you're reporting.

![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/04/full-21346-450592-img_2695.jpeg) This was the Brazos river west of Graham off of 209 On Friday morning. We got quite a bit of rain in Young and Throckmorton county. The pond on my place was dry last summer, and it was overflowing this weekend. Grass is almost knee-high.

WOW! that is right down the road from my place. My pond should be good now. LOL! Thanks for posting!

Got so much rain in Wheeler County that my stand is listing backward slightly.
I'm assuming the legs are sinking into the ground.
Wind anchors are keeping it from going over backward but I'm worried they will pull out of the softened ground before I can get up there.
Moved it to a different location last month.
Feeder location last year had the same problem during heavy rains but the stand was fine.

We got another .83" today. 8.40" YTD with about 1/3 of that within the last 3 weeks. We also had a pretty wet winter. Our place in Briscoe County is green and lush, looks great. Plenty of cover for a good fawn crop, great browse......so far so good for a good deer season.

In Hall County today and the countryside has been washed like I've never seen. Here's the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red from today looking west from 287. ![[Linked Image]](https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54504400456_719c222de3_c.jpg)

We have about 5.5 miles of that as our Northern property line. A few days ago it was mostly sandy river bed with maybe 20% of it covered. Tomorrow or the next day it’ll be back to a trickle. Drains like a bath tub. Then fill up again.

Have had to postpone a trip to my buddy's place on the canyon a couple times this spring due to rain. No complaints here.
That country is real pretty when it is green.

Deer have completely stopped coming to my feeder in Childress because everything is so green. Hopefully this turns into some good horns next year. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-54614-451465-childress_green.jpg)

I'm averaging one doe a week. They could care less about the feeder. We haven't been hailed out (yet) so I know that they are going to hit the wheat. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/05/full-7441-451501-sexl6zp961hf2t3nxg18a4cbfwc4n7wffhlbbjs5ftakzqserpnsz2jpvtfhkeue.jpg)
