Yesterday me and Dad had planned on getting on the lake and trying to find some Crappie but it almost didnt happen. We got up and there were storms just a couple miles to the north of us so we had to wait and make sure they didnt drift just a few miles south or we would be in trouble. We eventually got on the water about 10am and went to our first spot looking for post spawners in about 12' of water. I caught one real big one right off the bat and that was it. We went and tried another spot in about 16' of water and as soon as I dropped the trolling motor in the water I turned to dad and said "my graph is loaded top to bottom with fish but aint no way they are Crappie". Before I could even pick up my Sandbass rod to see if that is what they were the whole immediate area around the boat erupted with schooling Sandbass. You didnt even have to cast because they were right at the boat. You could just dunk your lure over the side of the boat and get bit. We tossed 10 of those in the livewell just to make sure we wouldnt starve to death and then decided to check some shallow spawning areas to see if there were any late spawners.

We pulled up to the first spot and first cast I got a mega Black Crappie in about 2' of water. Very next cast another one. We had found the motherload of late spawners!! The quality of these fish were the best I have ever seen and I didnt think I would ever see anything better than a day we had last year in the same area. The number of 13"+ fish was insane! We didnt even keep anything under 11".

We ended the day bringing home 42 really big Crappie, 11 Sandbass, and I think there were 4 nice Channel Cats as well all caught on 1/16 and 1/8 jigs. I didnt get any pics of the Sandbass and Catfish because I left them in the livewell since there was not enough room in the ice chest. Other than the Sandbass everything was caught in 2'-5' of water.

One funny thing we saw out there was a nice balsa wood bobber floating on the water. I use those for catfishing so I trolled over there to get it and it went under. Few minutes later it popped up again so I casted towards it but it took off again. This went on for over 10 minutes before I gave up. There could have been a 10 pound Bass or a 10" Crappie on the other end but I will never know. Somone out there I am sure has a fish story about the giant fish that broke him off though. LOL

That’s a good day! I hauled some parts to Tyler one afternoon and called an old neighbor in February. He said they were biting good and we filled two Skeeter live well full. Best day! Easy fishing corks and jiggs in 3’ water.

Outstanding! We are going back to Fork for a few days next week to get after them again. That and some night catfishing. Your post has me chomping at the bit to get going.
