I just want to make the occasional knife for my kitchen and for gifts. Not trying to make a living at it. But, I like good equipment, I like U.S. made, and I can pretty much build or fabricate anything. This seems like a time saver. Checking Trick Tools.com showed me $6,000-$11,000 grinders that are U.S. made. This also seems like a good way to support a U.S. business, and save some money.

Does anyone have any know of these grinders?

I have seen some advertisements is all I’ve seen, don’t actually know anyone with one. That being said there’s lots of grinders that are USA made. I just bought my 2nd grinder the other day from Reeder Grinders and they’re out of Carrollton, TX. Will be going down to pick it up once it’s all together!

Thank you. I did not know about Reeder Grinders. They are more money than House Made, but may be worth it.

It gives me another thing to consider.

I'd go with Reeder too, well worth the money. Be careful, grinding is addicting. I started out 20 years ago with one, and now I have three and if I had the room, I'd buy another one.

Why the need for so many grinders?

I think I know, but I want to leave the question open ended.

I too wanted a US made (quality) grinder, but didn't want to pay the outrageous cost of a "pro" quality tool.. (knifemaking is just a hobby for me.. I make just a handful a year and occasionally use a grinder for other tasks.. it doesn't get used a lot)..

I got lucky and found a used Burr King (made in Missouri) 2x72 at an auction in the DFW area... New its a $3700 machine... I paid a tiny bit more than $300 including tax and the buyers premium at the auction.. Ive been using it for almost 2 years now with zero problems..

Now if I could only get lucky and find a pro quality band saw and pro quality drill press on similar deals lol..

I wanted another one so I don’t have to change out my tooling…Just keep a platen on one and my 14” wheel on the other grinder for bevels

Must be something I don’t understand. It’s all about removing and reshaping a piece of metal. I’m on my third general purpose two wheel Craftsman sander/grinder in about 50 years. No idea how many knives I’ve made.

Maybe something is better but mine works at removing steel.

I have a Multi-tool grinder, and use it daily. It removes steel very well.

A knife grinder speeds up the process, by allowing for more consistency grinding each side.

Time is money in my case.

You can run 500 miles at Daytona in a stock Chevy impala, but it wont be as fast or as smooth as a real race car. For many of us, its also about doing it efficiently. A dedicated 2x72 grinder will run cooler, ability for speed control, more tooling options. Like many, i too started with a 2x42 craftsman, moved to a KMG, and now I run a Reeder. There really is no comparison.
