Last weekend the family made our annual Easter Trek to Black Creek about 6 miles west of Devine. This is the original ranch house where my Grandfather J. A. Roberson grew up, it was constructed in 1911. This is the site where my family would gather many Sundays after church, Black Creek Church was about a mile south of here. For the last almost 50 years many of the Roberson family and friends have gathered at the farm on the Saturday before Easter. This year was no different as over 100 folks enjoyed fellowship, ate BBQ pork ribs and who knows what else. When I was a kid, there was a huge porch swing over to the right hand side of the porch. I remember us kids overloading it one day and the swing came crashing down, luckily, no one was hurt.
Stub, I didn't think to take a photo of food spread which was quite vast and held lots of variety as most every family brings something edible.

My Grandfather was born in 1901, so he was 10 years old when this house was built. His baby brother, John W. (Dub) Roberson was born the year this house was built. Uncle Dub was very special to me as he took me hunting after my Grandfather died when I was in the first grade. Uncle Dub filled a void, as my Dad was not a hunter. While Uncle Dub had other nephews and Great Nephews, I was always his "Pet".
He purchased the interest in this ranch from his siblings and owned it solely for many years. He completely remodeled the house and kept it up for many years.

A lot of people who say they are from Devine are really from Natalia. Glad to know you roots really are Devine and not Natalia. To be totally honest, I am from Zig Zag. 5 miles west on FM 2200. I know what you mean about folks not wanting to claim Natalia. Several kids in my graduating class transferred into Devine from Natalia and Lytle. Adios, Gary
