Anyone plant something for deer over their dove fields? I only dove hunt in September before grabbing the bow in October

One of my old landowners used to keep a 20 acre dove field for us. He would plow and plant oats or wheat after September 30th. At the end of January he would plow the wheat under and we would have a nice crop of croton (dove weed) and sunflowers each year.
