About to build a cabin on my place in OK. My concern i some "person" lighting the cabin on fire in a meth filled haze. Broken windows can be fixed but a complete loss would be different story. What kind of insurance is out there? Only 10 acres and be off grid cabin. However just base price of the build will be 5-7k before furnished which i wouldnt love to lose overnight.

Thanks,
Dale

Off grid sounds like not reported to county as a permanent leasehold improvement fixture, meaning no taxes paid on the cabin. Moment you get insurance, you will be paying fixture taxes to county, municipality.

I pay taxes on the land already, no permit area, tax guy will be aware of my “shed” so it’s all on the books just no building codes

Back in 2000 I had to fight tooth and nail to keep USAA's from valuating my $12,000 off-grid cabin at $60,000. I had to hire a private valuation company to get it done.

If I’m reading you right; that’s a tough one? There used to be a policy called a Fire and Extended Coverge that would be put on lake homes, cabins, etc. Not sure if it still exists. I would check with my agent; another used to was the ability to extend up to 10% of your policy to contents at other places.

Stick some wheels under it and insure it as a tiny home. No tax and can get it insured easely.
