Looking for advice on shed hunting.
We have found some in feeder pens and along trails. There are many bucks on this ranch and they have to shed somewhere.
I want to know what works best for you since many of you find more sheds in a weekend than we have found in three years.
Thanks in advance.

Where game trails meet a fence and they have to jump over it is a place to start.

Walk a lot, then walk some more. I can do 7/8 miles pretty easy in a day of shed hunting.

Walk all fence lines in your area. Lots of times when they jump a fence, the antlers will hit the ground.

Drive around. Your tires will probably find some.

We have found a couple in and around the feeder pens and have walked a number of trails but haven't walked any fence lines. Thanks for the responses.

Horses and dogs. You can cover a lot of ground with them.

Walk the thicket and drive the fields. Get OnX maps. Drive or walk a grid, it will show you where you have been and where you missed. We do this every year and find 60-80 in a weekend. If driving in a SxS make sure and have a passenger, it is amazing how fast you can clear a field. We have never had any extra luck on fence lines, although everyone claims they are where to look, I have found more in the middle of a field.

This is purely anecdotal, but I hunted next door to FR in Throckmorton County for 17 years and found 2 sheds total on my pasture. The bucks just did not spend any time on that particular pasture after the rut and not much time on it thru summer but as the fall came it would have so many different bucks cruise thru it that it was unreal. Maybe they are not wintering on you.

We have a little 250 acre place and every spring I walk the fence lines looking And I usually find them in the middle of the pasture in tall grass, they could be anywhere…
