Noticed on the national news yesterday that Chicago was putting out some formulation of cottonseed oil as a sterility solution to the rat population both female and male rats. And how does this tie into deer? Quite a few people use cottonseed as a protein source to feed their deer population. I have also noticed that some farmers and ranchers use cottonseed to feed their livestock. I would think the cottonseed oil used as a sterilization tool for rats would have a concentrated amount of cottonseed oil in it. It might also be noted that farmers and ranchers cut back on feeding cottonseed for their breeding sires so that it is leaving their system by the time they want their sires breeding the females. Probably is out of a buck's system by the time the rut comes around, but it does make you wonder. I found this information interesting on all kinds of levels.

You have to feed deer/livestock a ton of it to make them sterile. Even then it is temporary but unless it is their sole food source I wouldn't worry about it in deer or stop feeding before the rut.

It doesn’t, they are basically making an extreme concentrate with gossypol. For deer it would take the equivalent of 15lbs a day consumed(most deer only eat <10lbs of foraged to begin with) for 6plus months. Basically you would have to do same thing they did in the cattle bull study…. Dry pen them and only feed Cotton seed, for months, and you would get a temporary degree of sterilization
