Yesterday I spent the afternoon trying to call in coyotes and ended up finding some turkey instead. I shot my first turkey and am curious where to take it to do a mount. I’m in Dfw area.

Thank you

You're wanting to do a turkey fan? cut as much of the meat away from the tail, and pin it down on some cardboard in the fanned out shape. Cover the meaty portion really good with some borax and let it set in the garage for a week.

You want just the fan mounted or whole turkey?

You can also skin salt and press it making a cool DIY mount

My little cuz made this one [Linked Image]

I do the same thing except I use salt to put on the meaty portion. I refresh the salt 2-3 times until it is dried out thoroughly.

This is what I have done. Very easy and works well.

I've salted duck wings and grouse fans, works well enough. A lot cheaper than a taxidermist.

I just did one this past weekend for my son. As other have said, it's easy. Salt the meat area, spread the fan out on a box, and use heavy duty staples or push pins to secure the fan open while it dries/cures.

There's a guy in Hurst that I take my deer to for Euro. I'm having him do a Euro for my son's Osceola. I thought $100 was a little much to do a fan though.

Another turkey mounting thread just popped up this morning. You might want to look into this if you are looking for a full mount. https://texashuntingforum.com/forum...3/re-new-to-turkey-taxidermy#Post9205863

You might want to check out a local taxidermist in the DFW area or ask some fellow hunters for a recommendation.

I love this full body skin mount!! I've done the tails with Borax but your whole skin mount id really neat. I assume you use borax on the skin but how to you treat the head and neck appreciate your input!!

I have used salt and borax with the same results.
