I have been kicking the idea around about getting one to save putting daily miles on my diesel. Just want a run around town truck and one for short weekend trips. Seriously considering the AWD model in XL with the tow package. Don't care about electronics, gadgets or technology. Drove one a few months ago and it seemed pretty decent but you can only tell so much from a short drive. Anybody here got one and want to share the pros and cons?
And before anyone gets stupid, Yes I know they are small. Yes I know they won't haul much or tow much. Yes I know they won't have all the creature comforts. But if I need to haul or tow anything I still have my diesel. I'm just talking about a truck to run around in.

My buddy has one. He loves it. We have taken several short road trips in it, and it’s actually a pretty handy ride.
He has the FX4 AWD non-hybrid. He owns about 10 vehicles and he drives this one the most
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I rented one to drive to Chicago last year. I have no compliants about the vehicle with three adults driving thru KC, St Louis then Chicago and straight back. I also have a freind with an FX4 model and they like it. ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/03/full-6590-448748-c449ebe1_9316_489d_8272_a208099be009.jpeg)

A friend of mine has 5 in his fleet. All his repair men drive them and he’s got them outfitted with a ladder rack, ladder on one side and Milwaukee pack outs on the other side. Across the 5, they average about 22mpg. He loves them.

Think I like the Ranger better as it’s bed is separated from the cab, not a unibody.

So it's a pickup version of a Bronco? I wish they'd make more pickups without a crewcab and with a proper sized bed. Bring back the bench front seat.

Bronco Sport maybe great choice for the OP's needs.

Bronco Sport maybe great choice for the OP's needs. Yes, the Maverick and the Bronco Sport are built on the same chassis. Makes me wonder why we haven't seen a Hybrid Bronco Sport yet. New this year you can get the hybrid power-train in the Maverick with AWD. Previously it was FWD only. Interesting vehicle that gets 35+ MPG.

The ranger raptor and real bronco are on same chassis. And sport bronco is maverick chassis
I think entry level Ranger would be a better option but it’s not near as fuel efficient as the maverick that’s for sure

My fuel economy
Driving from Frisco to Lewisville to North Denton and back to South Denton in rush hour, 56 mpg.
Driving to Chicago and back going at or just above the posted speed limits, running around town, leaving the A/C on a 2 hour traffic jam, 33.5.
Going from North to South Denton at 3am (hyper mileage) 77.3 mpg.
Those were according to the cluster not me keeping track.

It’s a simple truck that works great for everyday driving and quick trips. I’m a fan of the AWD version with the tow package if you ever need to pull something light.

Didn't Honda build this truck years ago? Yep, the Honda Ridgeline. They still make it. Everybody bashed it when it came out but now everyone is reversing course on a garbage Ford product.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect. Some people live an entire lifetime & wonder if they ever made a difference in the world, a veteran doesn't have that problem. Reagan

I don’t think any one is reversing, it’s basically an el camino with good gas mileage. Perfect work vehicle if you have to shuttle parts or supplies. Not exactly what I’d want to cruise around NF service roads in or dodge deer with. But for a small sector it’s better then the ranger, solely due to mpg. With that said ridgeline is bigger then the Santa Cruz or Maverick

Funny thing is, you say it is garbage, but I posted this same thread on 5 forums and everybody that has one says it is a good vehicle. Do you have one? Have you driven one? On what basis do you say it is garbage? If you have a legitimate reason I would like to hear it so I can make an informed decision. What is a better option for less than $30k new in this day and age? Ridgeline is $12k more

Ridgeline is $12k more Not garbage as a vehicle, garbage is limited in ability compared to Tacoma, gladiator, Avalanche, Colorado/canyon, Ranger, Frontier, abilities. They make excellent high mileage fleet cars I think many would say the Santa Cruz and maverick’s excel at a very afforded high storage, High MPG, road vehicle, but it’s limited in payload, and off road ability, but not why you would choose maverick or Santa cruz

Ridgeline is $12k more As i mentioned previously, my buddy has one. He is a gearhead and owns around 10 or 12 operational vehicles, including a two new F-350's (one being a dually) an F-450 and F-550, an expedition, a 7.3 F-250, a couple of 90's model rangers, a 2001 Lightning, etc. Point made is he is knowledgeable about vehicles. He bought his maverick new and uses it almost daily as a runabout. He takes it down to his ranch and even tows a 12' trailer with his zero-turn mower on it at highway speeds to maintain a few of his properties. Passed him the other day towing it, he was doing 75 mpg and getting 15 mpg. Its not something that will replace a traditional truck but if your looking for a runabout that gets good mileage and is capable of most things that the average guy uses a 1/2 truck for, it will certainly suffice.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I also need to remind you that I have a diesel truck for the serious stuff. Go back and read my original post, I am looking for a daily driver and something for short trips. Not looking for a replacement for the diesel. Folks seem to forget that point

Yes Sir, I know I also said maverick or Santa Cruz would fit your purposes well.
The garage conversation is from another thread awhile back when some one tried to compare the Ridgeline to Tacoma/Colorado etc. so it’s not a direct comparison to your question
the guys using the maverick or Santa Cruz for delivery and fleet speak highly of them. My uncle has Santa Cruz for his wife and she put 40k a year on it and no issues.

Tacoma in 4WD is $9K more than the Maverick. And exactly what makes you say a Ford will leave you stranded? I had a 78 F-150 4x4 that I put well over 200K miles on before it got rolled on ice. It never left me stranded, even after being rolled we flipped her back over and I drove it home with a twisted frame. I had an 85 F-150 4x4 I put well over 300K miles on before I sold it. It never left me stranded. I had a 2002 Ranger that I drove for over 17 years and put over 300K miles on it before a guy texting and driving hit me and totaled it. I have a 2006 F-250 diesel with nearly 260K miles on it and it has never left me stranded. So why would a Maverick leave me stranded. The people that have experience with the Maverick do not seem to share your fear of being stranded. I'd love to hear about all the times you got left stranded by a Ford. Something tells me you haven't ever been stranded by a Ford and are just flapping your gums. Hell, I'll bet you haven't driven 10K miles in a Ford. Remember Genius I was asking for people with actual experience in the Maverick and you obviously don't have any so your opinion is absolutely worthless to me on this matter.
