Tomatoes: Panto Romanesco, Black Krim, Cherokee Purple, Roma, San Marzano, White Tomosil, Sweet 100, Yellow Pear, Jubilee, Celebration, brandy wine and tomatillos. Peppers: Jalapeño, Habanero, Serrano, Carolina Reaper, Primotali, California Reaper, Cayenne, poblano, mini bells, golden bells Basil and Dill All from seed All looking pretty good, some won’t make it, I’ll give some away and try and keep at least one plant of each. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/PzQsV4bb/IMG-6048.jpg)

Hey Derek, do you pull your citrus trees in on these windy days? I pulled them in when we were forecasted those 30-40mph winds, but dang even 10-20mph winds are blowing most of the leaves off.

I did last Friday. Calling for 20-40 the next two days. I'm going to try and get them moved to the backyard tonight. If I do the spot I have them the fence blocks most of the wind off of them. rarely do they blow over in that spot. My leaves seem to be holding on ok. They will be making new ones fast.

Gainesville Atwoods has the $1.29 deal on Red Dirt brand but none of the varieties excited me. 85% of the sale plants are strawberries. The rest is random versions of greens, artichokes, a few peppers, and some other stuff. I grow jalapenos but not much else pepper-wise usually.
My go to tomato used to be Solar Fire but they got really hard to find.
Too early for a good selection anyway.
EDIT to ask: Is there a product I can spray to kill weedy grasses in my garden that won't hurt my onions? My HEB had Tycoon tomatoes last week. They had just got a shipment in. I've only seen them at one other nursery that typically brings in different varieties.

what product can i use in vegetable garden to control/kill ants? I've heard people say Spinosasd works. I need to try it out. Comes in a few different brands. Just linking this one since it has a easy to find and read label on the site. https://www.fertilome.com/product/spinosad-32-oz

Getting anxious to get some these put in the ground. This is by far the best we’ve done with our seedlings. They take a of babying to get them ready to be planted. It’s a lot of fun though and saves a ton of money. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/bRJDV5h9/IMG-6098.jpg)

Mine aren't in the ground yet as it's been too wet. I have my plants and all my wife's "outside house plants" in the garage.
Pass the gravy.

I had everything covered up, just in case, but no frost. Figures it gets me when I'm not prepared though! ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/04/full-6229-449233-img_5018.jpg) Finally setup some vineyard-style stands for the Wifey's grapevines - 7.5' T-posts with 6' above ground: ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/04/full-6229-449234-img_5023.jpg) Still need a couple wires on this side, but the couple grapes we already have are up and running... ![[Linked Image]](https://texashuntingforum.com/forum/pics/userpics/2025/04/full-6229-449235-img_5020.jpg)

Planted my tomatoes and peppers yesterday amidst my December onions. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/WWHx8kJY/IMG-0656.jpg) And my "box potatoes" are on their third layer of home made compost. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.ibb.co/84sNPHpy/IMG-0657.jpg)
Pass the gravy.

Put the tomato transplants in the ground about 4 weeks ago. Saw my first small tomato today.

I put my plants out last week. Haven't had time to do much soil prep. My ph was low so I added some baking soda to the soil and washed it in before the rain came. I also side dressed them with Dr Earth's 4-6-3 fertilizer. I had put out some 13-13-13 and tilled it in before I planted. My ph was sitting at 6 before the rain and baking soda. I measured just now and the ph is 5. I was expecting it to adjust the other way. Does your soil ph go down after a rain? I did add some compost to the soil last week as well but it has consistently measured 6 until now. Any ideas? I like to be just above 7. I thought the baking soda would help.

I bet you'd have to add a whole bunch of baking soda to change the Ph enough to see it. I also bet rain is alkaline. Just educated guesses.
Pass the gravy.

Jet how are you testing your Ph? If it's the probe it's probably not the most accurate. But probably get you in the neighborhood. Best way to raise it is adding lime. If you had a soil test and your Magnesium levels were low you could go with Dolomitic lime. If those are good regular lime. I've never tested mine, I just know my area and sure I'm over 7. I'd love to be in the upper 6's.

Thanks for te responses guys. testing with a probe. I got a late start and didn't get soli sent off for testing. I'm at just under 6 and want to get to med/igh 6. Does lime act very fast?
GasGuzzler, the recommended application is 2lbs per 100 sq ft. I have a 20x20 garden this year but plan to expand next year.

Not doubting you here but I would be shocked if you're in Grayson Co and Ph is below 6.5. Honestly if you're below 7, Unless you're on a sweet piece of land. I wouldn't test the garden this year as you have already mixed in fertilizer and other amendments. I would test the surrounding area that hasn't been touched with anything, even fert this year. That will give you a good basis point of what your soil Ph is. I would wait until next February or early March to test the garden after nothing has been applied or messed with for a few months. I wouldn't waste money chasing soil Ph correction until I knew exactly what my Ph was from a lab. You might be chasing the wrong way. Waypoint and TX A&M have some good labs and cheap and on point on their Ph analysis.
