In town, whichever town it is around here, I rarely see anyone wearing a mask these days. But at the local grocery store, there’s one elderly lady working there that always has a mask on. I think it must be the same one that she’s used for a couple of years, because the elastic has stretched. She never, as far as I can remember, ever covered her nose, and now the mask no longer covers her upper lip. Her lower lip and chin are safe from the virus still. I’m not gonna ask her why she ‘sort of’ wears the mask, but it kills me to not ask her. One of those things I don’t need to know, but would like to know.

Come to the bigger cities and you will see some.

I see them on the older generation.

My sister in law wears one in her vehicle while she is driving and alone. Must be that some germs can haul butt. There are dumbasses everywhere.

Some liberals wear them because they know it infuriates conservatives.

I personally thing liberals wear them because it covers up their ugliness. They wish they could be beautiful like conservatives.

Some know they are so ugly they die their hair purple. Trying to accentuate something other than their face.....

I just returned from Thailand via Japan, and there are still a tremendous number of mask wearers in Asia. Now to be fair, their pollution sucks (thanks, China). Heck, lots of Afghans were wearing masks in Kabul in 2015, but it's one of the most polluted cities in the world.

Asians were wearing masks long before Covid. Especially the Japanese, they wear them out of courtesy to others when they feel ill.

Yes, I agree with you on folks still wearing masks. I assume there’s a real reason, unless they are in their car. But the older lady in the store had her upper lip in full view. Maybe if I gave some kid 50 cents to ask…

I see certain "types" of people that wear them. At my work, there is one type. At the store, there is another type. Neither of them are republican.

I had two kids in high school during all this mess and one always heeded the mask rules. They both had friends that were much more affected, wearing the masks everywhere long after they weren't mandated and wearing them in a way that left them up to exposure (around their chins). Weird time to see how some become lemmings ... shots and masks and tests. I have never had a covid test much less a shot.

And yet, I still occasionally see people driving, by themselves, inside their car, wearing a mask!

Men wearing a mask with a beard or a big bushy mustache is a waste of time, it is doing no good, as you are not getting a seal.

That is why chemical plants and refineries do not allow beards as respirators do not work.

As long as these people are not asking you to wear one and shaming you for not, why do you care if they wear one? Serious question...

Aren't we just asking people to not tell us what to do? So why should we care what those people do by wearing a mask. Even if it is worn improperly.

If you’re talking to me, I don’t care if she wears it or not. I’ve seen her in it for years, and suspect it’s the same mask. If she was afraid of some illness, I wonder why it only ‘protects’ her lower lip and chin. What’s the point? Of course, I haven’t seen her chin in years, so maybe it’s not a decent looking chin.

So no, it’s none of my business, but I am legally allowed to wonder. If you were wearing a bra outside of your wife beater shirt, I’d wonder. Might pay some kid that 50 cents to ask you.

I know a woman that still wears one. In the early days of Covid she said that her Dr. said It could not hurt.

My wife wears a mask when she goes outside or out in public.
Not because of covid paranoia… Far from that.

Well, if you want to make it personal, I can go there, but generally wasn't referring to you as much as the topic of pointing out a mask wearer.

But since you wanted to make it about you, here is some food for thought:

Maybe she wears it not for health reasons but cosmetic reasons. Maybe she has bad teeth, or bad breath, or a funky chin cancer. Maybe she is doing you the favor of not having to "mask" your recoil at her appearance when you see what she is hiding under that mask. There are a lot of reasons an elderly person could be wearing something that someone looking at that thing for only a single reason might miss the true reason entirely.

So I will ask again, why do you care enough to start a thread about a single mask wearing elderly woman?

We’ve lived here 15 years and had the property for 21 years. I’ve seen that lady a bazillion times, and her face is just fine, though showing age like mine is. When she first started wearing it, it was mostly over her nose, but has slid down as the years go by. And I wonder why she still wears it. I wonder! Why is that so hard to understand. Can a person go through life, or even a week, and not wonder about something?

And I had and have no intention of this being personal. I meant to say “a wife beater shirt”, not “your wife beater shirt”.

As for the thread, her mask is, best I can tell, the only one in town. Since I can assure you that her face is just fine, why is it practically hanging off her face. I wonder why? Simple as that.
