I did a search of the forums, but really didn't come up with anything that I am particularly looking for, so I hope I am asking this question in the right area. I am looking for primitive camping areas around north Texas, around 2 hours drive of the DFW area. I'm just looking for places where I can just set up my primitive camp and enjoy the peace and serenity of Texas nature for a weekend with little to preferably no human interaction. I'm sure many of you know of places I can go, so I would appreciate your input, thanks everyone.

Many of the state parks have primitive camping areas. Get the app for Texas State Parks and have a look. I’m pretty sure it was Bastrop State Park where we RV camped, and there was a real nice looking primitive camping area close by. And Colorado Bend SP is primitive only.

Lake mineral wells state park has some hike in primitive spots. 1.5 miles back I think.
There is a slew of wildlife to see on the old army camp there that isn’t the lake. I did it once. May be what you’re looking for. Go to their website and check out their primitive campsites.

Lots of good options, we have used Hipcamp, it’s an app. Most of the time nobody is on the property with you. Tons of places to. Choose from too

I assume your looking for something with more solitude than a state park, forest service, or corps primitive campground. I believe a lot of National Forest and Grassland areas outside of hunting season will allow dispersed camping just about anywhere you want, but no open fires, so for cooking you would have to use whatever kind of camp stove they allow. You would need to call the ranger for the areas your interested in to get up to date on areas and rules. I have camped in the primitive camps on some of the WMAs outside of hunting season to fish on some of the ponds and creeks located in them, and never see another soul. Again inquire with the biologist over each area to make sure on that area's rules and that there is not some event going on like a controlled burn, education field trips, etc. Another way to camp in real solitude is riverbed camping on a navigable river via canoe or kayak. As an example I have camped on high gravel bars on Oklahoma rivers just over the border to run yo yos by Canoe and had a blast. One more off the top of my head would be Lake Texoma on the Cross Timbers trail. You should be able to find an access point for an in and out hike. There are wilderness camps all along it. I would inquire to see how much use it gets, but I bet it is not much. I have hiked sections of it and never saw another person, but that was many many years ago. Things may have changed in this new internet world where nothing is secret anymore. https://www.laketexomaonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/cross_timbers.pdf
