I thought I had dodged the broken PVC curse during this last cold spell. Found some shattered pipes this morning. I keep a big supply of pipes and various valves, connectors, and such, so I fixed it all. But, my hands are a bit blue in places, from the glue. What do you guys use to remove it? I don’t have any acetone on hand.

Spray brake cleaner. Be sure and apply some hand lotion as it removes all the oil from your skin.

That blue pvc glue will wear off on it's own over a day or two as you're busy ripping out all that junk pvc and replacing with pex. wink

I wasn’t sure about latex gloves and PVC glue interaction. The glue is gone now, but there’s more to do.

If and when the water piping to the bunk house finally dies beyond repair, I’ll go to PEX. Hire it out though. I’m past any desire to crawl around under that little house. The last guy that did some work under there encountered an armadillo. Scared him to death. He came out from under there and went zero to sixty through the yard in a microsecond, like a T-Rex was after him. I had to run the armadillo off before he’d cautiously get back under there.

Ah, country life…

I go through a lot of nurse gloves when messing with epoxy while knife making.

reminds me of the time my FIL needed some plumbing work done on the house on his small ranch and I got voluntold to do it. I shimmied on my back for 15-20 feet to get over to the area, then start hearing a buzzing sound ... eeks333 ... shine my flashlight around to see 2 rattle snakes off to the side of where I just shimmied thru. I just about created him a new basement door thru the floor. I did what I needed to do quickly and shimmied back the way I came. Once I got out, he (FIL) got a good talking too and told him to find someone else if there is ever a need in the future. He wanted me to go back under there and kill the snakes ... nope, H3LL no, no way!!!

A long handled PVC cutter sure would have come in handy.

The idea is to NOT get solvent or glue on your hands in the fist place but if you do then you have a "rubber" there for protection. Good luck!
