A buddy of mine was sent a game cam photo of a cougar from a nearby rancher friend. The rancher with the photo was concerned about his cattle and epecially so with winter calving taking place. I certainly understand that. My bud sent out a post on facebook and requested info on "help" with the predator. He had to take down the post as he was getting bombarded by all kinds of well minded individuals with no stake in the operation. He immediately became vermin in the eyes of many.

One well minded individual with numerous posts here on THF did make contact with him - a positive communication which was very well received. Even so, no good deed goes unpunished.

Not just Facebook. There are people who have a sound heart but a soft head on here too. I remember the turtle shooting thread very well.

Hudbone,

It took a minute for the title of your post to hit bottom for me but…

Yeah. Absolutely.

Isn't a MT. Lion a varmint in the state of Texas with no license or permit needed to harvest? If so there is no issue.

True. However, we feel that TP&W is being pressured to classify as a game animal. That is why I volunteered to help SCI with the mountain lion research project in South Texas. We don't want the TP&WD to make management decisions on lions without proper research.
Adios,
Gary

Yes, but it isn't classified as one yet, so not need for SSS as SSS normally would apply.

From TP&W:

Non-game animals include (but are not limited to) the following: armadillos, bobcats coyotes, flying squirrels, frogs, ground squirrels, mountain lions, porcupines, prairie dogs, rabbits, and turtles. There is no closed season on these animals and a valid hunting license is required.

Ok I ment permit or special tag. One must have a valid hunting license to pull the trigger on anything in Texas.

No, that’s not true, either.

Yes it is per the Texas Game Warden who checked my boys and I dove hunting one year. He said "You must have a valid hunting license to pull the trigger on anything in Texas". That was my source.

In Texas, on private property, a person does not need a hunting license to hunt feral hogs.

This ^^^^ is the only thing in Texas that can be hunted without a license. Even snakes require a license to hunt.

Angus, law enforcers don’t always know the law, either.

Mr T, is there a difference between “hunting” a snake and killing it? Serious question.
Can a person not shoot a snake in their backyard/

another shady area is shooting crows. I always heard the crows have to be decimating "crops" to be killed.

That’s the way the law is written. I don’t know how many officers would actually enforce it.
