Re: the squirrel pic thread.
At one time they were butt deep on my Montague County property. They hit my corn feeders hard. Also cleaned out bird feeders.
Now, just realized that I haven’t seen a squirrel in years.
What happened?

What happened? They moved to town. I've shot as many as 50 in a given year over the last 10 years on my residential property. It's a lot of fun and keeps my trigger discipline in check.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I don't get many on my place, and I can make a few guesses as to why...

Plenty up our way. There are 2-3 that live by each feeder and plenty more that live in the oaks

I'm covered up in them at least 10-15 at each feeder. Pretty soon the 17 Mach II will be going to work.

We have a few on our place in Quannah. Killed one just a week ago. Thought the boy how to skin it whole, and saved the innards for our coyote trap.

I think the OP may have a predator problem for them to be so scarce there.

They come and go. Two years ago, we had no Squirrels. Now, we are covered up with them.
In my opinion, the hurricanes and funnel clouds, which are prevalent in my area, blow the Squirrel's natural predators out. Then the Squirrel population flourishes until the raptors return. I could be wrong.

I live in a Fort Worth suburb. I’ve about cleaned out the squirrels. They were chewing into the eaves of my house. One got fried by an attic electric wire that it attacked.
I bought some 22Colibri Short ammo with no powder and thus almost no noise. It’s only accurate at short range but I pretty well eliminated them all. Gotta admit, I enjoyed it. I now see an occasional one but it’s unusual. Loaned the gun and ammo to neighbors. They haven’t gotten another start.
I use the 22 Colibri ammo to practice trigger pull in town.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Got one with the pellet gun last week. It hung up in the top of elm tree, it’s gonna be there a long time.

I don't think there is a shortage of squirrels anywhere. Cottontails on the other hand I hardly see these days and a lot fewer jackrabbits than I used to.
Shoot. Eat. Repeat.
