Have you hunted/fished with someone (or maybe it’s you) who always killed the best buck, shot the most birds, or caught the best fish?
Whether it’s luck or talent, they always have the best outing. I ask because this is my father and this man is a hell of an outdoorsman. He is 80 now and really slowing down. He has been reminiscing a lot about his past experiences, more than normal. Got thinking if any of you have witnessed this from anyone.

Yes, but I've generally attributed a level of luck and good fortune driving some of that too. Rarely been myself, but I've had some moments of good fortune along the way too.

A guy my dad used to work for had a son that could hang a stand in a Walmart parking lot and bad a 150" buck. The guy is a good hunter but has a ton of dumb luck, best I can tell.

Pretty much my experience. Like bird dogs, he who hunts the most usually wins

Minimal effort, maximum reward

Yep, one of my old HS friends and college room mate ... he and I would go fishing and he would drag them in while I never got a bite, we'd trade fishing poles and he would still bring them in to my nothing. He wasn't raised hunting but after college I got him on a small lease with me and he would always get the bigger deer ... just pure luck.

I still recall one opening morning when I killed the biggest 8 point I had ever killed (way before we knew anything about B&C scoring) that was 19-3/4 inch inside spread, heavy mass and good length that field dressed 135 lbs on my dad's scale that I would guess in the 135" range B&C ... I got back to camp to get him to help load, we went and got my deer back to camp and he was all depressed that he hadn't seen anything. I looked up and saw a brute running a doe and told him to grab his rifle. He broke and run about 200 yards across a creek to catch them crossing a opening. He shot it and made my deer look small, his was almost 22" inside spread 8 point with a boat load of mass & length, field dressed 155 lbs, I would guess is would score well over 145". Upon us processing, he said he would take my antlers and mount them for me. A few months later his wife up and left him, one day while he was at work she took all his guns & fishing equipment to the pawn shop and sold them, cleaned out the bank account and filed for divorce ... both his and my antlers disappeared during her tirade departure. Still one of the biggest 8 points I have ever killed and that was back in roughly 1980.

after the hunt, on out way out of the ranch, we stopped at the other hunters camp that had the bulk of the ranch (900-1000 acres) to show them our kills and they were whipping themselves as most of those guys had been on that same ranch for over 20 years and never saw anything close to that size of either of ours. They never hunted the 140 pasture that was wide open with only about 30 acres of trees as it was too open, so the rancher leased it out to us since the other hunters didn't want it. We paid $140 each ($1 per acre) ... my how times have changed. Wish I still had that lease as it was year around, hunting, fishing 5 large stock tanks, in a dove fly way (we could fish and bird hunt the whole ranch) ... The 80+ year old old rancher said to hunt anything we wanted except varmints and armadillo. He and his brother still spot lighted for varmint for extra cash from the fur.

I digress ...

My middle kid is like that as well. She wanted fish a small tournament on Toledo Bend with me last spring. Took her along only for her to drag a senko behind the boat while on her phone. And yep, she caught a 6:8 lb bass and won big bass.

People that spend the most time out there are the most savvy. Of that I am certain. But when it comes to fishing, I am convinced that some people are just fishier than others.
