How is the central coastal area in or around Victoria? Deer density? What size buck does that area produce?
I might end up in that area, just wondering what the deer situation is?
Thanks for any info.

I'll be interested in the feedback here. I used to call on Citizen's MC in Vic for many years driving in from DFW. That area with the Spanish Oaks and coastal vegetation always looked like a great area for hunting.

Lots of deer in that area, typically on the smaller side but there are some nice bucks around. Lots of pigs too.
Going south towards Refugio, the deer get bigger. The old Rooke ranch and the O’Connor produce some bigger deer than one might initially think
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Have a friend that lives on the Guad halfway between Cuero and Victoria. as mentioned, plenty of deer but relatively small bodied.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

Appreciate it, a long time ago I hit two deer within 30 minutes on 111 between Yoakum and Edna. I kind of figured the density was pretty good, but I don't remember seeing any bucks. The only place I've seen buck is between Refugio and Bayside. They were on the bigger side.

Im from Victoria, and my dad still lives there and hunts there ( south side of the county). Typically he only sees smaller to medium size bucks. Seems kinda hit and miss most of the time. he either sees quite a few for several days or nothing at all

Pretty sure the rut there is very early - October at the latest.

Maybe I am thinking closer to the coast but, figured Victoria was pretty close to the coast.

Our place is near Edna in Jackson County, not far from Victoria. Plenty of deer and hogs. The deer are small bodied coastal plains deer. Mature bucks weight about 140 - 160 lbs. We've been feeding protien for 20 years and regularly kill deer in the 130's and occasionally 140's. They start chasing early to mid-October and the rut runs into Novermber. I love the area just dont expect huge deer
