I look forward to hunting North Central Texas and have been hunting in Fisher County for the past 5 years. Tons of deer and an overabundance of annoying hogs but ALWAYS a great time. This is flat beautiful country. I fly into Dallas from Atlanta and drive out with a stop in Abeline for supplies and share camp with a buddy from Colorado.

The weather worked out pretty well starting on the 19th of November and got down right cold in the 30's for a few days. I saw pretty good deer and we knocked off hogs daily. I'm usually hoping for a 130's buck but on the 23rd I was hunting a huge cotton field and spotted a buck trailing a doe at about 600 yards. I didn't think much about him but after studying him for a while I knew he was a big deer as he was well outside his ears and beams extended out past his nose and swept upward. I stayed til lunch and he was glued to that doe. They bedded down a few times but never came within 500 yards. I'm shooting a 7mm RemMag but didn't know what my bullet was doing at that range. I knew I was 3 inches high at 100, dead on at 200, 7 inches low at three, and after 400 wasn't solid on BDR. Came back that afternoon and never saw them but figured they were bedded down in cotton around a cottonwood thicket.

I was in there at 530 the next morning and it was slow. I bumped deer getting in even without flashlights and literally crawling across an open area to my stand. At 7 saw a few more deer filtering back in. At 745 I was eating an apple and saw a doe come flying out of the cotton. Then I heard a big grunt. As a reached for the rifle, I looked up and just saw tines everywhere. The doe read the script to the tee and instead of running to the right and shortly out of sight she ran in circles right out in front of me in an area I ranged at about 340 yards. Buck is trotting in circles head down trying to get her into the woods. He stopped to catch his breath and this old Marine sent him to glory. My biggest buck. Biggest I've ever seen on the hoof! No fences. Unofficially 167. Waiting on official scoring. This ones for you dad! Jackpot! To God be the glory!!!
