Bought my boys some landowner tags and headed to Northen NM for some overdue father son time. Hunted hard the first day but only saw Muley's Found a pair of sheds Goofing off laughing at something Pizza and beer Oldest double lunged an older cow, followed blood trail for about 200 yards... but finally crashed This 2 year old dropped Headed home, 4 coolers stuffed with elk! And some very nice memories.

Think this would be the best "common man" elk hunt. Great scenery, great meat, great time with a buddy.
On the bucket list. Cow for me too !!!

Great job, Did you do the hard part..... before you put them in the ice chest, or did you have some help? Did you grab some pinion nuts, too? What was the Hunt Unit were you in?

Great job, Did you do the hard part..... before you put them in the ice chest, or did you have some help? Did you grab some pinion nuts, too? What was the Hunt Unit were you in? Thanks! The boys did most of the work. It's not a wilderness experience, so gutted instead of quartered, used an ATV to get them to a pickup, winched them into the bed and took them back to the ranch house to hang up and finish processing while having a few beers. Only second time I've gotten elk out whole instead of packing out on my back. No Pinon nuts this time of year but looked like they had a bumper crop a few months ago though. The tag was a private land tag, good for that ranch only.
