I have a 4 acre lake that typically sees a lot of big ducks on it. This year I have yet to see a single duck on the water. Not very many fyling around Ray Roberts either. Even the comorants are thin. Is something going on? Has it not been cold enough up north? It's a bit weird because normally it's loaded up. I get mallards, pintails and teal with some geese mixed in. The geese winter and nest here. I'm not seeing the huge flocks of comorants on RR.

All fun aside, that lake is about the worst I've seen it sense 2014-15 season...when I started seriously getting after ducks. But they usually show up at some point.

I would guess that is because your lake is not providing the ducks with good food supply like it typically has in the past. Natural summer water drawdown and flooding/water level... all impacts which plants germinate and grow. Different weather scenarios can result in good vegetation, not so good vegetation, or none at all. I lot of lakes are not in good condition this year.

If your lake is drawn down 2-3 feet- it’s essentially a mud hole- unless you have piles of aquatics- wigeon weed etc……

I live on RR, property abuts corps land on one of the good hunting creeks. Normally this time of year we wake to volley after volley. This past Saturday, I heard 6 shots total and yesterday none if that says anything...

Not if it has been 4 foot below pool for a long time and then goes up to 2-3 feet below pool.

I was in Winnie last week and didn't see a single duck. Only one snipe. Heaps of cranes though, all sandhill.

It’s because there is not a big number of ducks in North Texas right now. And anyone that tells you there is is full of you know what.
I’ve got food out the ying yang. And still not seeing many birds. Not like usual.

All I know is I've lived here 24 years now and been through plenty of cycles both wet and drought conditions and I always have a ton of ducks. Not this year. I think I benefit from all the pressure on RR. I've had ducks when my lake is a mudhole. A couple of times dry spells have had it down really low in the past, but it still had lots of ducks. This year has been strange.

We have seen between 30-100 on Red River property all year. Group of 15+ mallards as well that circled and wouldn’t finish last week. There are pockets of ducks, but not abundant. Mainly gadwall wigeons and GWT now showing up. See what this weekend brings.
