They attempted to shoot it. Bear probably didn’t fall from tree at the break the shot, also no idea if other angles were blocked etc. and even if guy killed was the shooter Hunter is a general term, he could have been trying to wrangle in a dog that got loose etc also. Sad deal over all According to other articles, the guy killed was not the shooter. They were hunting with hounds, so it's quite possible he was trying to get the dogs out of the way. That would be my guess, also. The guide made us use 12 gauge slugs and carried a hog leg on his hip plus all the dogs. He was real careful. Sometimes the bear will jump out of the tree and try to outrun the dogs.
