Hello new hunter here. I have the opportunity to get on a lease just a couple miles east of somerset. It’s only 15 acres and neverhunted before. Just wondering if anyone hunts/hunted in the area. The place is close to Savannah heights intermediate school. Any info will be appreciated.

Lots of small tracts in the area.
Deer population can be hit or miss. Some decent bucks can come out of the area if they get some age
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Hope its not too close. Don't recall the distance but you have to be quite a distance away from a school to fire a gun.

I leased a place a few miles south of Somerset last year. Unfortunately it was sold to a developer or I would still be on it. In my opinion the deer population was good, had a few decent bucks and tons of pigs. I really liked the property and would consider another lease in the area.
The negative, it was a “larger” property surrounded by lots of small neighbors. The neighbors weren’t the nicest properties and we had issues with dogs. I had a nice buck chased off by some dogs before I could get a shot off. Still salty about that! Good luck if you get on it.

lots of Bexar co is turning into housing. there's deer around though. like said before I'd imagine it could be real hit or miss. might be a good pocket of deer might be someone else is already hunting them and picking them over. A place to hunt is a place to hunt...i wouldn't think of 15ac as a place to lease...but i live on 10ac and I've shot a handful of deer behind the house. just because i can more than anything.....its the county, its legal, there's deer there, behind me is mostly flood plane. there's no buildings or livestock behind me. just need to be real cautious about where your bullets are going if you are rifle hunting. to remove some deer population in a developing area like that is probably a good thing. better than them being hit on the roads. i wouldn't turn my nose at any chance to hunt. sometimes some real nice bucks come out of unlikely places. can have some fun bad bag some meat no matter what.

i hunted on about a 200ac place in comal co years ago. it belonged to a relative, i leased it cheaply. it was in a developing area though too. we would see dogs, deer with dog collars on, stuff where you realized that these deer had a lot of human contact. many of the deer i shot when skinned had a collection of BBs and pellets under the hide where someone had BB-gunned them to run them out of their yards and gardens. there were bigger bucks there for sure but they seemed to know where the real hunting was taking place and avoided us a lot. there were a lot of deer there though. was a great place until it went housing too and i had to move.
