If you need some good cheap gifts go check out your Walmart. The one down here in Los Fresnos had an entire endcap of BUCK Knives. I just bought a package with 2 knives for $25. BUCK Knives are made in America and they have a lifetime warranty. For $25 it is worth picking some up for gifts or to just have a couple good blades for your truck or tackle box. Cheers

A lot of Walmart Buck knife sets are made in China and use 7CR17 or 3CR13MOV steel. Not saying Chinese Bucks aren't quality ( I own one in 420HC which is a fine knife) but you might check the specs to know exactly what your looking at.

I bought a set and you are correct, these are China made. I stand corrected on that but the card in the package does say they have BUCK's Forever Warranty. Still a hell of a deal for a gift.

These are the best hunting knives for folks who don’t have a legitimate custom knife or need to keep some in various locations. I suggest the carbon steel HD versions for hunting knives. As for modern buck knives, I wouldn’t want a bucket full of them even if they were free.

China knife is a no go for me.

I just use one of the Outdoor Edge pocket knives with exchangeable surgical blades. Makes things easy for field dressing.

Those are handy, but for someone who skins a lot of fur in addition to the meat animals, they can get expensive and batoning through a pelvis is not going to work very well. I know there are ways around splitting one but It's so much easier to do it.

Good point. I’m lucky to use mine once a year. It’s just convenient and I’m not good at sharpening a knife.
