Has anyone hunted the draw hunt at the Crossbar BLM land? Just looking for some pointers . Never hunted that part of the panhandle and supposed to be out there in 2 weeks.

I hunted there 7 years back when they still allowed gun hunts. At that time they had some feeders up but no blinds. Suspect you'll see more white tail than mulies. I hunted 3 days and never saw a mule deer. Shot a white tail doe for the freezer, but never got an opportunity on a good buck. Talk to the biologist running the hunt before time. They have cameras on the feeders and should be able to give you some pointers. Suggest you take a portable ground bow blind and set it up near a feeder paying close attention to the wind. There are no tall trees to hang a blind in (at least not near a feeder). If you brought in a tripod it will be sky lighted. PM me if you want to chat more.
To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first and call whatever you hit the target.www.NewHopeEquine.com - Health and Healing through Horses.

The lack of vehicle access over the Crossbar BLM can be a pain, but it would seem to be a neat spot to hunt. In fact, all of the tips about how to talk to a biologist and shooting near a feeder with a ground blind definitely sound good. It’s a lot about patience and luck, and hopefully you’ll bring something good back!

Probably, but it would not matter. The only hunting TPWD has it open for is the drawn archery hunts.

My lease is a few miles south of the Cross Bar and is covered in quail, bobs and blues. Wish it had more deer…….
