Y'all would not believe the deer that live around that lake. Super thick cover and bow hunting only on Corp property.
Guy killed a 195" about 15 years ago.

You bet, seen a couple of studs out Simmons on way to Lake north of the park entrance. Also saw a bruiser years ago on the brush line towards Grapevine marina between Cowboys driving range and Gaylord Texan. Studs and lots of them out by that lake; always heard of studs out off Dove Loop Rd, lakeside in the brushy areas too.

Ya and it went from OTC to guarantee draw to good luck. A lot guys would like to whoop his [censored], for helping to blow it out, been a lot of big deer killed there, smart people didn’t post them

Free country but I also get when dudes have been hunting it for decades OTC and it gets turned in to draw, then an impossible draw because of social media.

What’s bad is 90% of tags holders now don’t hunt more then once because it’s to hard, think and physical, so all the dudes that will put in the blood in sweat can’t draw

Good or too good of things generally come to an end for a variety of reasons. Loose lips sunk the ship.

What's sad about it? I live in Flower Mound and think it's awesome we have these giant deer, whether they get hunted or not.
The way development is headed out here hunters will be the last of their worries before too long.

I'm in FloMo too and agree with you. There are no guarantees in life, leases or public draw land. You live life one day at a time and go from there...

Interesting info on hunting around lake Grapevine.

https://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/grapevine/Recreation/Hunting.shtml

2024-2025 hunting season information
White-tailed Deer Hunting Archery Only:
250 Permits will be issued in a lottery system. Quota permits for deer will be issued based on current best management practices for White-tailed Deer populations, and harvest guidelines. Applications may be submitted via email, mailed, or dropped off in person to the office located at 110 Fairway Drive, Grapevine, TX 76051 between 1 July 2024 – 31 July 2024. . Applications will be available online when the application period opens. Party leaders will be notified ONLY if their application is drawn, and permits will be emailed to the drawn hunters. There will be no redraw. Those who get drawn for the archery deer hunt are allowed to harvest feral hogs with this permit WITHIN deer season ONLY. Each application must be filled out completely and the waiver of liability must be signed by each person on the application or the whole permit gets voided for the lottery. SEASON DATES: 28 Sep. 2024 - 5 Jan. 2025, plus special late season 6 Jan. 2025 – 19 Jan. 2025 (See TPWD Outdoor Annual for restrictions and bag limits). Hunters must follow all Federal and State hunting laws and regulations.

REMINDER: All hunters who were drawn in the previous season, but did not submit an end of the year survey, will be disqualified from the drawing.

This is a cool map of where you can hunt.

I live in Colleyville and hunted for decades. Went from hunting OTC to drawing every year to not drawing in 5. Hell I was hunting 3 hours before my wife got induced.

It is sad because I’ve seen what it has become, because of social media, Day that 197 got posted, was the death of the best days of the vine. No telling how many hunt it illegally now too

I get reasons to post and not post pics and that is basis why I no long post my deer because I don't want competition or to be undercut

Pretty interesting thread here for me.
You all are talking about areas we partied at in high school back in the late 70's.
I grew up off Dove Rd.

We would see very few deer tracks around back then but would see them all the way up about 2 blocks from NW Highway.
Was a cool area back before Dove Rd was paved to the lake.

Cool to see a buck like that living out there now.
