Amazing how different the hunting is from one region to another. I've hunted properties where if you shut the truck door to loud you would blow out the property for the weekend.

Hunted a place near Blanco where the deer started hanging around the feeder 1-2 hours before it would go off in the afternoon. You had to drive right by the feeder to get to the blind and they'd move about 10-20 yards and then right back to where they were. Shoot one and they'd scatter for about 30 seconds and then be back. I never enjoyed it all that much. Prefer our set up now near Graham where we have an OK number of deer but there are sits where you see nothing.

For sure. On my place, as long as you're in a tractor or truck, you're good. I've been mowing on a JD tractor and ran into a covey of quail and could not get them to flush with the front tire a foot away. I flushed two coveys simultaneously from 30 yards today on foot.

They are pretty hungry this year. Topped off the feeder last weekend and while I was closing the feed gate pen I heard a “thump” looked up and two does had jumped into the pen and were eating the corn I had spilled.

That is funny. Didn’t see it a first. They don’t act that way in East Texas.

It is interesting on how they act from place to place. These deer are pretty calm but if they wind you in a bow blind forget about it. Pretty tolerant of vehicles though.

I’ve been on other places where they know when you come thru the gate and had zero hunting pressure. You had to move like a ghost to see anything

My hunting spot looks identical but we feed very heavily year around and I see deer come in and stare at the feeder waiting for it to go off. Not much spooks them but we don’t shoot many either.

This spot is beat up because I feed year round as well. The rest of the property has a pretty good stand of grass this year....much better shape than the last two years that's for sure. Year before last I had oak trees completely defoliate due to the drought...I was terrified I lost them.

We do our share of shooting, I try to keep the rifle shots down however and do all my shooting with a bow.

Love the hill country. But it’s like that in some areas. I shot a buck one morning late season a few years back. I got out of the stand, drove my truck close enough to drag him and load him up, drove back to the stand and parked behind it in the open. Got out of the truck and crawled into the stand to get my rifle and as I stepped out of the stand there’s a doe standing at the feeder I just drove by. So I braced against the corner of the stand and folded her too. Was already bloodying a knife, figured why not two.

I have a 2-year-old little buck at one feeder that I could probably get to eat out of my hand with a little effort. He stands off and waits while the feed trailer engine is screaming.
