Without resurfacing an old beat up topic, does anyone have any advice on how to get deer to stop and face directly at you so they can be evaluated for whether they meet the 13" antler restriction. The bucks on my place only travel broadside to the stand and will not stop long enough to give a fair evaluation. We moved the stand 90 degrees, but now they travel the other way and the dilemma is repeated. We had a beautiful 8 point this week with a high narrow rack pass through, but he just would not stop and pose for us. It seems the deer have been trained to know not to give anything but a broadside view. Of course, the does do not seem to care at all and will pose beautifully for a face on view.

Just throw some hand corn on the ground and they will stop to eat it and eventually you`ll be able to judge them better.

Cough or whistle so they look in your direction.

I think your overthinking it, but as said put down an attractor in your direction off the trail. Corn or some Tinks for example. Also, I sometimes will use fishing line to hang a big feather from a tall tree in my shooting lane to draw out any Bobcat that may be in the area. But I am pretty sure I remember curious deer notice and look at it too.
