Every year I take 3-4 days off around my birthday to get a long hunt at the lease every year. It's a great bday present since its in mid-Nov and bucks are usually moving pretty good.

I got back this past Wed from my bday hunt so I was surprised when my wife called me Thursday asking if I was gonna hunt this wknd since the next few wknds are booked up.

We had this guy show on camera that same day so I was stoked to get out there. Hunted hard Saturday and Sunday but no luck. Saw a lot of rutting activity but mostly younger bucks.




I was packed and ready to leave straight from the blind after the Sunday PM hunt but it had been a long day and I decided it'd be safer if I stayed there and come home early in the morning.

That night I checked the weather and saw that that front was coming through at around 4am and decided maybe I'd just hop in the blind for a couple hours, I didn't have any meetings (virtual) until 9:30, so I'd just get down at 9 and hop on the meeting on the ride home.

The wind was howling and the only thing moving were cows - slowly grazing there way to the feeder. I was just about to get down to go run them off and just then I saw movement directly down wind from me. Got my binos up and knew it was him immediately. He was clearly on a mission so I got my gun up immediately. Soon as he cleared the a big clump of mesquites back behind the feeder I let one fly and he folded right there.





Best part, I was able to get him gutted and loaded in my truck by 9:25 and didn't even have to miss my meeting!
