Public Service Announcement - If you try to cut the tip of your finger off cleaning the doe that you shot in the morning, you'll probably miss the evening hunt getting stitches.

Just depends. Is it your trigger finger? Don't let a little cut stop you from killing the biggest buck of your life!

Hard to shoot a deer when you're still in the DR office!

Sliced my left thumb cleaning an axis with a new knife several years ago. The meat processor said they call it "hurry up and die." 'Got stitches and still have the scar. I've seen an Abuelo come darn close to cutting his femoral in his excitement and rush to "show how it's done" to his grandson.

Heal quickly, sir, and get back in the stand!
One thing I've gone to is wearing nitrile gloves when doing deer and most other wild animals.
I once had a troop who was cleaning the Bradley's main gun and got some GMD grease in a scratch on his hand. A couple days later, he had surgery to clean out the infection. I remember helping him peel off dead skin from the wound with tweezers and the doc said he almost lost his hand. .
The gloves protect from infection (my hands always have cuts or scratches for one reason or another), keep your hands warmer when cleaning a deer in the cold, help you maintain a better grip on the carcass thus keeping you safer, and yes, they provide a small level of protection from cuts. I'll take 6 mil of nitrile over bare skin against a knife any day.

I cut meat for 26 years and never had a stitch . Never worked with anyone who had to get stitched either. We never wore any protective gloves either. I worked in supermarkets only though. Worst cut I had was from a canned ham that took one of those keys to open it.

I wear 7mil nitrile cloves to skin deer and pigs. Didn’t use to when it was deer only, but pigs are a bit more nasty.
Luckily, I have never cut myself while skinning deer or pigs, and how many deer that might be over 60+ years of skinning. I hope I can keep saying that, because stuff happens. You know my recent issue with finger and router bit.

Well, I don't think nitrile gloves would have helped this one. I did get back to the stand at 5:10. Better late than never!

Super Glue will fix a cut like that right up. Hold pressure on it till the bleeding eased up. Dunk it in rubbing alcohol and stir it around till it’s good and clean. When the alcohol evaporates, super glue it shut. I’m not sure whether cussing makes the alcohol sting less but cleaning it out is the worse part. Super Glue is redneck stitches.

I have done super glue before, and contemplated it this time around.

There's probably some "social disease" cures on this site as well. 'Just sayin'.

Been there done that more than once. Always carry super glue in my shooting bag. Last glue job turned out better than stitches would have.

Seems like I always get a small cut while cleaning a deer. As i recall only had a few stitches one time. Grandson was helping and his knife slipped and that got me 5 or 6 stitches I think.

In 2021 I was unloading a Boar off the ATV when one of his cutters caught my finger as he fell to the ground. It just about ripped the end of my finger off from just behind the finger nail. I could actually bend the tip almost all the way over. After getting the bleeding stopped I super glued the heck out of it and I now have almost 100% of my feeling back in it. After I got it all glued back in place.

I read somewhere that one of the first uses before it became commercial was as a needle-less suture in Vietnam war.

I process and I end up cutting myself every year. Super glue is my friend.

I’ve never used super glue for anything with cuts. You just pinch it back together and spread it on the outside?
I’ve always just wrapped it in a paper towel/piece of my shirt and some electric tape, careful not to be too tight.
