I aint probably hunt in about 15 years, im 25 now i used to go with my dad but i hardly remember it. I got a blind about 100 yards from a feeder, i get out there about 5 in the morning but i havnt seen nothing yet, but i have some general questions My dads an old guy and he cant get up in the morning, he drives a big rig til late at night, and i was wondering what my options are for going in the evening or around noon, because i want to take him with me i know hed love it.
My other question, can anyone give me some tips on gettin em to show up? Im on a budget so my blind is just a blind curtain i let air out for a few days, strung along a tree line with the trees to my back so im pretty covered. But i just cant get nothin to show up.

Make sure the primary wind is in your favor from the feeder to the blind. In most places in Texas, that will involve the blind being either NW, N, or NE of the feeder. If you can get one, put up a camera to see if anything is coming, and at what time. Feeder location can matter a lot. I would avoid having it in the bald open; deer will be happier if it's fairly close to some cover. Some of the attractants, like B&J, might help deer initially start coming to your feeder. *All these assume you have deer in the area you are hunting. That's probably the first step.

Are the deer eating all the corn from your feeder? What time are you feeding and how long? Wind is something I never thought about when I was young. My dad didn’t hunt and had no one to take or teach me good habits.

I ended up bagging a foe while i was just checking the feeder last night, scared off a buck on accident just walking up, and then a doe came real close to us. I scared if off pullin out my rifle, then shot it about 100 yards out. This morning i saw another buck but couldnt get a shot before it ran off either so it seems they are out here but only in the morning and the evening. After i shot the doe i had 4 deer come real close to me as i was gutting it but i was in the deers chest cavity and didnt feel like gutting two as it was late, guess im gonna end up goin in the evenings. I dont have a camera but i will next season

Good for you man. Like QSYB said, the wind is crucial and thermals are just as important.
With your blind being so open, if you are getting there at 5a, in still or calm wind (regardless which direction), your scent is just dispersing over the whole area until the sun comes up and warms the air.
I'd recommend getting to your blind about 20-30 min before shooting light. I don't think they're not there in the morning, they just know you are.

Congrats on the doe! Work on slipping in easy and glassing as you go if you find they are arriving earlier than you in the evenings.

We have shot deer in a blind 50 yards from a feeder but generally speaking the further away you are from it the less likely you are to spook the deer. If you took a poll I would bet the vast majority of blinds are 100 yards +/- from the feeder so your setup is not bad but if you are having issues spooking the deer and your shooting skills are up to moving your blind to 200 yards might help. I am in the process of moving all my blinds to 2-300 yards.

It’s great that you’re getting back into hunting and trying to have some quality time with your dad. It sounds like the deer are just starting to find your feeder. Give it time, now that they discovered a new good source they will come. 100 yds is plenty of distance from your feeder. If you’re on the ground any further away may be difficult to get a clear shot unless you’re on a hill or hunting a wheat field. Your approach to and leaving the stand is important. Are you walking through areas that deer will likely be when you walk in or out? Try to avoid walking through areas where they usually feed just before daylight and after dark. This time of the year, the rut is in full swing. Chances are the buck you saw was following the doe you shot. Now that you have some meat for the freezer let the does feed without disturbing them and the bucks will show up.

Im thinking the same thing, they can sefinetely see me getting to the blind if they are at the feeder and theres not much way around that, bad first setup for sure. But it dosnt go past their trails or the feeder. I think they are indeed smelling me and i got lucky with that doe
